Fastfredracing's Audi Quattro obsession cost me $800
Yesterday morning Fred posted a Facebook link to an Audi Quattro in his Audi Quattro thread.
I looked at the link when I rolled into work to the World HQ of SuperBob's Repair, a couple hundred yards from my crib. I just kind of drifted on the site to other stuff for sale since I have had my fill of the the CEL on MF modern-ish German cars. What's this I see? Six or seven Craftsman base and top boxes for sale for $1,100 for the lot which would be really nice in my shop if I wedged them in there. Intriguing. Today, I go back to FB, Just killing time, and find a fairly-giganto MATCO with an old-ass sweet AF Craftsman bolted to it. Core box is 5 foot wide and 4 1/2 foot tall and I can put my 42" wide mid-90's Craftsman (Waterloo) box on top. New box is mint mechanically and structurally. Repainted, but done well (was his Dad's from the way back), and the dude will put it on a trailer and haul it to me Sunday for twenty big ones. Maybe 14 miles. Merry Christmas!!!! ![]()

It will be in there (Kontak/Cabarino garage) soon enough. We have the beer refrigerator nailed down at least.
This tool box is awesome.

Sweet score!
Everything that I see that looks interesting to me is always 50-120 miles away.

I think, as a guy, I couldn't have enough tool boxes. I would store everything in them.
Currently, I have one tool cart like that dedicated only to Model trains/hobbies/guitar jigs/parts. One cart like this I have stores leather, cords, tools, bike parts, electrical, plumbing, air compressor, even stuff for shoe polish. Clamps, zip ties, flat screwdrivers, phillips bins, Allen drawers, metric drawers, sae, etc.... One drawer dedicated to dremel type tools. Another to tools/actual car stuff Another to yard stuff, saws, cutting equipment. If I had more carts, I would acquire more- For Even more Tools. Clothes. Kitchen Untensils. Soap, Shaving blades. The whole house would be rolling tool boxes. Already got a box cutter, exacto bin (which is with the hobby box) Does one need a heavy duty drawer with rollers to contain such stuff? YES! The drawers roll so easily. It is RIGHT! edit- I just get US general cheap stuff, I'm not into actual professional stuff! US general good 'nough for me! ![]()

Nice score, Bob!
Welcome to the Matco toolbox club. 😃 I could actually use more tool storage, as some drawers are piled full. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Gee I wish I had a smaller tool box." Said no guy ever....
![]() (edit) Screw it...just ordered 'em anyway. Maybe I can squeeze 'em into my 3 chests high 26" Craftsman ball bearing griplatch set up. If not, I'll find somewhere to put 'em. https://www.tekton.com/1-2-inch-drive-thin-wall-impact-flip-socket-set-sif92400https://www.tekton.com/1-2-inch-drive-thin-wall-impact-flip-socket-set-sif92400

Thanks for the morning box envy Bob, you should be sending Fred a secret Santa gift for that find.

Thanks! Your box is a big reason I got it as I joined the MATCO Tools Facebook page after seeing it in a previous post a ways back. You can burn some time there.
My brother's fiance, after seeing pics of a couple strange tool purchases I made recently, called me Imelda Marcos. She's says to him he's 68, isnt he done buying them? Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Nice !! Glad to be of assistance . I just grabbed a Matco Roller a few months back also . I was trying to sell a junker gmc 1500 that I took on trade from a junkie . It needed a transmission , and it was so gross inside that I didnt have the stomach to clean it out .
I had a guy on Marketplace offer to trade me his Matco roll cab and hutch for the truck so I made the deal . One can never have too many tool boxes !! I have no idea what I will do with all of them once I retire . I measured recently and my tool boxes will take up all the wall space on both long walls of my home garage . ![]()

I got this Snap-On in slightly rough condition off CL for $200 and restored it. I've posted pics of the project here before.

Not rattle can - I've got a buddy that owns a pro metal painting company. I prepped all the parts by cleaning off stickers and grease and removed most of the dents and sanded rough spots. Then I took all the pieces down to his shop and he sprayed primer, baked it in his oven, then sprayed the enamel snap on paint code with another baking afterwards. All I had to do was pay for the snap on red color paint.
And Paul - unfortunately - not ball bearing slides. This cabinet was made in 1978 - I'm not even sure if they were offered then.
