I got invited to go skiing over the weekend with one of my favorite friends and his young son, (couldn’t go), one of the reasons that he was free is because his wife flew up the Vancouver to take the young daughter to the TS show. Last one of the 2 year tour, if not mistaken?

Anyhow, he paid $4800 for the tickets and that of course doesn’t include plane tickets and hotel, etc. They don’t fly coach or stay at Holiday Inn, fwiw. If you knew his wife, it would be worth $8k or whatever to get rid of her for a weekend but that’s another story. :)

As for what she does for the economy of the places that she plays, it’s insane. I think about…if you’re a parent, you’re generally thrilled if your kids turn out happy and healthy. Imagine being TS’s parents…I can’t.

Apparently TS’s mom was at the show and my niece did meet her.

She just gave out $197 million bonuses to everyone involved with her tour, good for her!

“ Swift has given bonuses to her “truck drivers, caterers, instrument techs, merch team, lighting, sound, production staff and assistants, carpenters, dancers, band, security, choreographers, pyrotechnics, riggers, hair, make-up, wardrobe, physical therapists and video team” for their contributions to the tour”

She sounds like a horrible person and role model!

I don't get the hate. I'm not familiar with her music except the one song that the cop lip synced to. I'm sure the music is catchy. She seems (based on what I've heard) to put on a hell of a show. She's making money hand over fist. If I could do that, I certainly would. I don't think she's making coats out of puppies and enslaving 5 year olds to make her concert shirts and as roadies.

There is no denying the TS impact. The Steelers are playing the Chiefs on Christmas day and before the season started I gave those tickets to a buddy of mine who is coming in from CA. I have been besieged with inquiries for that game from many friends/folks who are non-football fans because they either are, or have kids who are TS fans and they might be able to catch a glimpse of TS if she is at the game. It's crazy.

Mebbe Taylor thought Tebow wuz just boring and "traded up" to a star NFL future hall of famer ... and who wouldn't dump a former Gator ... just because :D

One bad date decision shouldn't be a reason to hate her :)

No tats, no cussing in her lyrics (I think), just a great entertainer and a good role model apparently. The money is insane, but thugs, rapists and a-holes do just as well (P-diddy, etc.). Just glad my kids have no interest (they're late 20's) as they can't afford $4800 for tickets and I'm definitely not subsidizing her windfall.

$197 million in bonuses. Imagine the world we'd have if that was the norm. Not so much the money but the empathy and awareness that would make the world such a better place.

I don’t listen to her music since we broke up. Probably shouldn’t have said she should take some cooking lessons.

Thanks. Now I have to deal with her lack of culinary skills...

That said: your money, your "Crotchrock" choices (I kid, title paraphrased from another thread).

If it makes you happy...

Wife, SIL, nieces, and daughter have seen TS on this tour a few times, and they had a big watch party, live stream of the Vancouver shows the other night. I don't get it, but as long as they are having a good time...

As I said earlier I have nothing against TS, but she is no bob dylan or john prine. Heard this the other day in one of her songs and just sorta shook my head.

I though lurch was fast motion explicitly, but I think I have wasted more time than this deserves

Quote:

Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby
And I'm a monster on the hill
Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city
Pierced through the heart, but never killed
Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism
Like some kind of congressman? (Tale as old as time)
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I'll watch as you're leaving
And life will lose all its meaning
(For the last time)

red 928 12-10-2024 10:47 AM

we'll see if we can tip-toe around this without
getting PARFy.

In the entertainment industry, there is pressure for people
to side with those who control the media.

If someone goes against those beliefs,
they're less likely see any success or work.
At the very least their publicity will turn negative
or disappear completely.
If they side up with the power-brokers,
their careers get a serious boost.
I doubt even the naysayers can dispute this.

Take Dolly Parton for example.
She was a down to earth country girl who's career
had run it's course and faded into nothing.
Then she came out and embraced "the cause"
and she was suddenly all over the news, in commercials,
concerts, heck they even put her in at the super bowl.
Wow, overnight resurgence and sheep who hadn't thought
of her in decades were suddenly enamored with her.
As evidenced by some people posting even here baa baa.

Another is Cindi Lauper.
She was ready for the retirement home, working the
occasional "Native American" casino (on weekdays).
But, her support of the cause paid off and she was
in all sorts of commercials after a little nip and tuck surgery
(filmed from 50 feet with triple rose filters to cover up
how old she really looked).
baa baa.

James Woods was a featured guest on family guy,
they even named the local high school after him.
Until he publicly started supporting #45 and sending out
meant tweets.
Suddenly he was a pariah to be ridiculed on the same show,
before being cut out of the business altogether.

Even a middle of the road Clint Eastwood got on the wrong side
of them and fell out of favor for a while.

There are many others on both sides of that list.

Which brings up to Ms. Swift:
for a long time,
she played it straight and stayed out of this game.
She declined to talk about the subject to avoid
being shunned by the wigs.
And while she enjoyed great success by avoiding the subject,
it was only AFTER she "woke up" and proclaimed her position
of support, that she became a billionaire phenom
that was the very best ever at separating fools
from their money.
She is a total sell-out in more ways than one.

I don't care much for her or against her but I
hold in disdain those who are so gullible or morally "flexible"
as to be used as pawns in the rigged game.

As a side note, a while back I noticed a program about
her on Netflix and was curious,
mostly because I didn't know any of her work or
wondered why she was popular.
I watched about 15 or 20 minutes of the program.
By that time I had seem enough and had better things
to do but was left with an impression and more questions.

The impression was that she is obviously good at being a
marketing image but I did not see anything I regarded as real talent.

The questions are what the heck is wrong with people?
Is the FOMO and herd mentality really that strong?

monoflo 12-10-2024 11:00 AM

Shes a pop star.
My granddaughters like her -- they are young.
My folks didn't much care for my music - I didn't much care for my kids music.

Everything is political - when in the "good" old days wasn't Rock, Soul , Rapor whatever not political at least sometimes.

Relax and Get off the Lawn!!!!!

I didn't know much about Taylor, but this thread inspired me to learn more. What I found out is she's not only very talented, she also does an impressive job of managing her career and reputation. She's truly the CEO of a large firm, where she's also the product.
None of us on this board have dreamed as big, and achieved as much, as Taylor Swift. Atta girl Taylor.

Except for tabs…

You forgot about tabs… and M21sniper.

And until Taylor Swift shills for the Draggin' Azz jeans company, I can't take her seriously.

vash 12-11-2024 06:08 PM

I like her.

like everything in life, somethings we like and some things we dont. nothing personal.

"I like her music. She makes me feel things." hahahha...<---a line out of Brooklyn 99 from Jake Peralta. hahhaha

So Vancouver, the last stop on the tour, and the area we reside in. I work ATC Approach Control in to CYVR. we had over 110 extra Private Business Jets each day on the Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday bringing people in for the 3 shows. Rivalled the number of Business Jets we saw during the 2010 Olympics.....

Crazy....
