Those Swifties
Last weekend I flew from Halifax to Toronto and back. While waiting for my first flight, i noticed there were a lot of young women as well as Mom's and daughters. It wasn't until I was in the car listening to the radio that I clued in to the fact that Taylor Swift was doing sold out concerts in Toronto.
A couple of days later in the line up to board my return flight, I was chatting with a couple and pointing out some Eras T shirts, speculated the wearers just might have been to the concert. I confessed the only reason I knew any of TS's music was because of my granddaughter and she was getting a device loaded with that artist's music for Christmas. That's when I heard a voice say,"Here, give her this!" and a young lady passed me a friendship bracelet for my granddaughter. As I thanked her and said how much my granddaughter would appreciate the gift, another young woman passed me a bracelet too. It was great to see such great attitudes and generosity to an old Grey haired guy and his family. Must have been some good vibes at the concert. Best Les |
One of my friends flew in to New Orleans for a business meeting. They had to stay at a hotel 80 miles from New Orleans and every motel and hotel, abd and breakfast was booked. TS was having a concert and every room was sold out.
If a gun was held to my old grey head, and I was told to sing the words to one of her songs, they would just have to shoot, as I could not even make a guess. The same thing for most all country and western songs. Rock and roll forever! |
I'd be right behind you Glen.
Now, ask me for a Door's tune and I'd keep them entertained for a while. |
Business is good..... Is actually booming

Who is Taylor Swiftie?
|
She seems like a pretty good role model in a era of facial tats and other sketchy crap. I approve (but I have no idea about her music )
|
I had no idea either until a few months ago when my granddaughter "discovered " the vast catalog of Swift's music. The device my granddaughter will get for Christmas will have earbuds. Not that I don't like the music, just not all the time.
I have almost 300 songs in my repertoire. None of them are by Taylor Swift. :D Best Les |
I don't think I've ever heard a whole TS song except in this video. I feel certain this guy probably has a daughter.

I also suspect she puts on a great show. And yes, she seems to actually be a celeb worthy of role model status. Some of you guys might find this interesting. This is Andrew Schulz. He's a comedian (good one too). Here he is talking about going to a TS concert because his wife wanted to go. <iframe width="600" height="550" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RApuQiJOZSE" title="Andrew Schulz Says Taylor Swift Is Bigger Than Beyoncé And Michael Jackson" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
She’s full of subliminal messages, goes on stage and screams f*** the patriarchy while collecting billions. Parades the fact that she was paid twice for her music by re-recording everything. Plus the whole connection with P diddy… As an artist, she has the full support of the labels/producers/etc to push out hits. She is also quite the show woman.
Swifty story, I went to the movie screening with the ole GF one night after hitting the outlets. There was a swifty in the lobby of the theater giving away goody bags of Taylor Swift themed stuff. We struck up a conversation with the girl and were both shocked that she was in her 30’s, living with her parents and had a kid. She was also mildly mentally retarded (I’m not qualified to clinically diagnose, but the GF is ). |
If you're a dad with a daughter in her early 20s, good chance you've listened to some TS over the years. My wife and daughter went and saw her a couple years ago. Paid nearly $5k for 2 tickets.

My daughter treated her two oldest kids to a concert in Indy. I think they had a good time but haven't talked to them about it personally. They're all experienced flyers so I'm sure the short trip by plane from DC was like a puddle jumper flight to them.

Both seem cool as can be and having the time of their lives.... Couldn't name one of her songs for half her net worth either .... Swifties rock .... I used to :D |

It fundamentally goes against the wholesome artist principle. |
Boomer here. I have many tens of thousands of songs on my jukebox, none by TS, but she makes other people happy with music. Good for her. Good for her fans. Good for her bank account.
The Beatles did the same thing a long time ago. There was lots of push and pull between generations over their popularity between, too, (I was there) but in the end it seems to have worked itself out. (It's funny how she's manages to get free rent in some people's heads, though!) |

$2,500CDN for an obstructed view seat now.
I don't care what people pay, but I cannot agree with a police escort that makes taxpayers wait while her bus goes straight to her hotel. She can line up like everyone else, take a helicopter, or don't come to Toronto. |
