Admittedly a tangent... I'm under the impression there is a distinct generational divide between those who grew up playing computer games, and those of us who grew up before they existed. Those who did still play computer games, and those of us who didn't, don't. Oh, I've played pong, pacman, tetris, and even Wolfenstein, but nothing in the last 30 years.
So I'm curious to see if anyone on this forum cares about this?

honestly, 1981 is before my time. i only encountered polybius ~10 years ago.
but i love a good conspiracy theory and urban legend. i dont believe any of them, but i think they speak to a very fundamental human feeling of wanting the world to make sense. and our amazing ability to fill in the gaps, even our own memories, without consciously lying to ourselves, in story's to make them make sense. something about the human brain to try and understand its present consciousness makes up a story of the past, and how it got there. i love this urban ledged because it speaks to that original fear, that still somehow, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, that video games could be used to change you. make you something against your will. make you do things. violence, puzzles, black opps, and mind control ... love it. polybius is just another outcropping of scapegoating of video games our society does, to save poor parents the shame of having been **** parents. i love it. its another study into a modern day satanic panic. What is cool is that I lived in Portland during this time. I never had an extra quarter for pinball or an arcade game however.
My band also played at Satyricon in 1985. If you know, you know. And that, is the end of my brush with greatness. |

Never heard of it and couldn’t watch the video now but just two nights ago put together my new Class of 81 Ms Pac Man cabinet. Was born in 72 so I watched MTV come on air on 08/1/81 and had Atari 2600….still have the same one and all the games, as well as all my original hand held video games from then. Mid 80s I had a Commodore 64 and a ton of games and learned to program in basic, then a Commodore 128 with games…I grew up in arcades playing centipede, donkey Kong and galaga and pac man. When we went to Florida for family vacations the hotels had arcades and i would spend efforts checking the change returns of pay phones and games for quarters so I could play. then skateboards and BMX and guitars took over and then got a car and girlfriend….and I missed the Nintendo Mario Bros generation that my younger bother was into then off to college etc….never had a game boy. Since the first Xbox came out back around 2001, I’ve been back. I still play a lot. Currently working my way through black ops 6. And I have my Ms Pac-Man and Galaga cabinets that I play a lot. I miss the 80s. Great time to be a kid
