OK, next question, you speak of the APP. Does that run on a Firestick, or Apple TV? What platform runs the APP. I don't plan on watching a race on my phone when I have a nice TV to use.

I run it on Apple TV.

Can F1 TV be recorded for playback at a later time? I am a fan, but I ain't getting up at 2:00 AM to watch a race. I record all the F1 coverage with my DVR. And I watch when convenient for me.

F1TV runs on all smart TVs, you can watch on up to 6 devices (ipad when I am on holiday) and you can "replay" from the start even if the race started minutes before...no need to record, it's a set of "things" for you to watch, it's not ON all day... I am cheap when it comes to these apps and yet F1TV is such good value for me I never consider dropping it.. All the practices, all the interviews, race as you like it with non-shouty commentators, CAR by CAR camera if you want (wanna watch the race as fernando the whole way? feel free), pre-post shows, and Porsche supercup... Big archive too (if you care). It's worth the money.

Now Rally TV is not as good a value sadly...

It's easy to be cynical but I think they are doing a good job - the funny guy is actually funny (joked about Lando's F40)... Why not, it'll drive up interest...

The F1TV app does not run on my smart tv (Samsung). I have to watch on my tablet.

Looks like I'm going to have to give F1TV another chance. Last time when I tried to subscribe, my stupid bank (USAA which sucks) declined the payment because the vendor was in the UK and they thought it was fraud. Took a few hours to distill the BS down to the real issue.

Our TV is not a smart TV. We use a TIVO DVR to record everything. We can watch live TV provided by Cox cable. I just hate commercials, so I record everything and skip commercials.

Anyway, TIVO does not support F1TV. However, we also have a Chromecat stick. We just change the input of the TV, and bam, Chromecast is on. I can sign up for F1 TV when ESPN stops coverage.

Man F1 sure knows how to do a reveal!

Jack Whitehall is hilarious!

Dunno what it is with Samsung but their older TVs have issue with a variety of apps.. Consider a Fire stick or cube, the stick is cheap, those things are better than the original TV software, generally... I have 2 smart Tvs where I ignore their OS and immediately boot to HDMI1 which is a fire cube (or stick). More robust in my experience. The TV also loses wifi more... just my experience.

Do ya think the moody blues will sue Sauber for copywrite infringement? ;)

Thanks, will look into it.

This is sad F1. I hate nothing more than artificial rules to "spice up the show", https://racer.com/2025/02/18/extra-mandatory-pit-stops-planned-for-monaco-grand-prix/

I hear you.. At the same time, Monaco is a procession on a good day. Qualifying is fun and that's it... Maybe that will make it a little less predictable. Much as I like the vista or the occasional Charles show at home, it's a crap race most of the time.

herr_oberst 02-19-2025 08:46 AM

Some have suggested a Monaco-only car. Even an F2 chassis for the F1 race, Monaco only.

That's a slippery slope.

The mandatory pitstops have been compared to playing flag football at the NFL Pro-Bowl. I don't think it's that silly; I think it's more akin to breaking NASCAR races into stages. Gotta try something to juice the show.

rfuerst911sc 02-19-2025 09:21 AM

In former F1 news Logan Sargeant has quit his European LeMans team saying he wants to do something else . I get the feeling he is burnt out on racing .

Agreed. Mandatory pit stops reeks of NASCAR. They already mandate use of two different tire compounds to force at least one stop.

I know many felt last year's LeClerc win was boring, but from a strategic perspective, I actually found it really interesting: how can Ferrari f up the win? When do you bring in LeClerc? One stop or two?

If the FIA wants to make Monaco more interesting, change the track (can't) or change the cars (smaller) to encourage passing. Don't make one-off rules to artificially bunch up the pack.

rfuerst911sc 02-20-2025 02:10 AM

Modern F1 cars outgrew Monaco 15 years ago . It is not racing , it is high speed following . I get the allure of Monaco but unless they race go karts it's just not a race .

Got the cube. It worked! Thanks! Actually, all the apps are faster and some other connectivity problems went away.

15? At least 30 years ago. Mansell on fresh rubber not able to get past Senna on worn tires for lap after lap was proof then the cars were too big. One could argue that once the cigar cars were scrapped for monocoque chassises the jig was up.
