Mailing prescription drugs… who knew?

Ms. Rocket is out of town and I was going to mail a couple of prescriptions to her. They were in a Ziploc with her mail, and the guy at the post office says they can’t mail prescription drugs. I’ve done it many times, but I guess they didn’t see what I had.

Who knew?

Edit: I’ll try another post office and be a little more discreet about it.

I've been getting all my prescriptions via USPS for many years.. The last time I was in a local pharmacy was 2021 to get a script of Oxycodone after a tooth extraction. Other than that its all by mail.

It is different when a pharmacy mails stuff than when a civilian does.

I would never give some one antibiotics or mail them to some one, that would be against the law.

As far as anyone will know, I never would

USPS sent me a letter threatening to file charges for mailing a pistol barrel without an FFL when I appealed an insurance claim denial for their having delivered it to the wrong address. Their word means nothing and they are complete idiots.

Looking online, if you’re registered with the DEA, you’re good to mail drugs.

Edit: legal prescription drugs.

Wow. In Canada, this is totally a thing. Express Scripts mentioned above has an entire business around this.

Since when is a business allowed to do something a civilian can’t? What if the business is a sole proprietor?

And yes, in Canada, the 2 carriers that can be used to ship firearms are Canada Post and CanPar.

Think spoon manufacturers or FFLs

Same concept.

If you have a medical license you can mail it.

It's about having the proper license to handle the material in question.

Something to keep in mind - if you live in a place like Phoenix (118 F this weekend), you don't want your medications sitting in a hot mailbox. Lots of drugs should be kept at or around the 60-80 degree range.

In my former job I shipped a lot of things that fell under the FDA. My current business was a FedEx shipper for a few years.
There is a lot of paperwork that needs to be filled out. They need to know what they are shipping so it arrives in a usable state. Yes, mostly temperature range.

She's not out of the country is she?

Whenever we, the family travel outside the US I check the destinations laws on the specific meds we may need to bring.

Generally if you have a prescription you are OK if you have a 30 day or less supply and the meds are in their original container.

Sometimes you need documentation as well.

99% of the time you can travel without even thinking about it but the prep is worth it for the 1% where some overzealous border agent is having a bad day.

Same with wine, who knew ? But wineries can, and so can pharmacies direct to you ( I get everything by mail)... it's the gov't saving us from ourselves ;-)

PS: Re wine, after the USP denied me, Fedex guy told me "that's olive oil right?" wink wink

Are you talking about shipping or receiving wine?

I get a case a month delivered.

Used to be you had to sign for it then they stopped asking for a signature which devolved to them just leaving it at the door and not even ringing the bell. One time I got an alert the delivery was made and there was nothing outside. Wife and I went looking for it and found it two houses down in front of the neighbors door who are also winos and we would probably have never seen it again.

Last two deliveries were a private courier who actually scans my drivers license. Made a comment about past deliveries just being left and he said "well, that's why we now have the contract"

I have no faith in anyone's competence to ship restricted items just because their business type or license allows it. I've had UPS and FedEx leave signature-required packages containing guns from manufacturers and refinishing shops on my doorstep. One FFL mailed a LOADED handgun USPS to my FFL, signature required, but just left it on his porch. His teenage daughter brought it in the house when she got home from school. When I lived in VA, UPS left a box full of insulin on my doorstep, meant for someone else. But I never used that door and so it sat there for a few days in the summer heat before I noticed it.
