When I worked in DC, there were a lot of Cayennes in DC and Northern VA. If I were in the market for one (for about $20K), I would consider this (link below) a contender. I really like the colors and it is hard to find an interior that is not black (nice and cool). I would think anything with less than 100K is fairly low mileage for a 10-year-old car and the Turbo V8s seem pretty bulletproof.

I’ve posted my experience with them before. We’ve had 4, still have 3.
The 04-06 are the best quality but getting long on the tooth. My 06 Cayenne turbo s is possibly my favourite all time vehicle but it’s broken right now. My wife’s 2011 Cayenne s has been rock solid and reliable and is nice to drive with 400 hp on tap. She complains that everything else is gutless now. Her 06 turbo was pretty sweet too. Get one with higher mileage and hope you don’t have bore score issues. 08 seems to have been the worst year for this. |
They are out there :)....
Gotta go drive one, make sure it's appropriate for my needs, and then I'll find one ... prolly in the 2010-1018 year ranges and flexible on price too. After the holidaze ... tho' This thread is not over ... thanks again! |
Not to muddy the waters but the Macan is a fine SUV also . Smaller but more nimble , backseat is a little snug but doable .
|
I love Muddy Waters ... a local guy used to play in his band back when...
But hear me now .... I will dispronounce my ride ... southern style.... Porsh Macon ... now on the radar .... yeah rhymes with bacon :). I may have actually been seeing those instead of Peppers out on the road.... never gave either much of a closer look before. Smaller is mo' better for getting up close to entrances in tight parking lots, etc. Thanks all! |
I do think I've been seeing bacon instead of peppers now... but they might be "too low"... I dunno? I've got to drive one (I know I'll like it) and see if it will be good for parents too.
First real casual search .... I might get picky and print mo' money ... turbo :D Thanks! |

Like Shaun, I too was/am fan of the 957 GTS, but when I started to go into the nitty gritty details, I opted for the 958 GTS instead.
Having owned a 955 Turbo and a pair of 996s, this one has been my favorite Porsche. Just does so many things so well. |
buy one in Vancouver. with Canadian pesos.
........ huge supply of lower mileage status symbols. |

Might have found one... gonna try to paste a link... what say ye ... all?
errr.... dang ... pasted my cargooroo search page.... instead.... 2017 Macan with 65K miles ... checks all the boxes ... I'll try again later... Don't see how to get the description link copied... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735126438.jpg |
Is that an S or base model? I have only driven a base model, power was adequate but it’s your typical four cylinder turbo. Noticeable lag off of the line, and needs a good downshift to pass on the highway. Once it spools up it moves decently. Personally I’ll probably buy an S for my daughter because they aren’t much more money, but I still need to drive one. Otherwise the ride and handling is typical well composed Porsche, and I really like the interior. When I was still driving between Wichita and DFW weekly I was considering one as a daily.

|
Twin turbo V6 that will get you to the grocery store in a hurry :D . Me personally I would not want a 4 cylinder . A V6 is the way to go in my opinion . I think they make a normally aspirated V6 Macan , a little less complexity if that's a concern .
|
It’s either a turbo 4 or turbo V6, that’s all they offered in the Macan.
|
I posted the link to it.

Thank you all.... Merry Christmas :) |
My wife's Porsche is a 2015 Macan S we bought CPO from the dealership. We are the 2nd owners. The PO bought new at this dealer, maintained it there and it was in amazing shape. The only issue we've had is a PDK failure right before the warranty expired. I tried to talk her into a Cayenne, but she wouldn't even look. Too big she said. I find the back seat in the Macan a bit useless and the cargo carrying capacity lacking. But, it drives amazingly well and the build quality is outstanding. Still looks new when cleaned up. We're now approaching 90k total miles after 5 1/2 years. She loves it.

^^^^^ Nice!
Useless back seats ... like my 911 and Supra Turbo ;)? Don't have to be large, but ingress/egress for front & back matter .... that would be the deal breaker ... a $pur of the moment thing.... In the morning :D |
Agree with all the Macan is a great choice. I have driven a 2016 base quite a bit, the turbo lag is real but once up and moving it gets down the road nicely. From my research I think the 4cyl has less "known" problems than the 6. The one I'm familiar with was very dependable. I took a 3 week road trip in a 2024 S earlier this year, very nice ride and quick! I find the back seats usable at 5-10", no issues getting in or out. I like that the back seats fold flat in the Macan. I was able to carry a 6' surf board in back.
|
I’m 6’1” and about 220, I was able to sit behind myself in reasonable comfort for around town use. I wouldn’t want to sit back there for hours, but it’s usable.

I saw this on a Facebook forum, I’d probably done something like this had I kept the old one.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735166331.jpg

Someone mentioned the " known issues " of the Macan V6 . What are these known issues ? And is it model year specific ? Just trying to learn just in case I get the itch .

1st, they are a great driver, but as pointed out, limited room in the back seat area, and limited storage capacity. One thing that just rubbed me wrong, stupid, simple and they have partially corrected. But like the 914 and 924s, they use a different bolt pattern than the 5 on 130. The wheels look the same, but if you had a base cayenne and thought that you found a deal on a premium set of Macan wheels, you’d be in for a surprise when you tried to install them. |

I'd spend some time on Rennlist or one of the Macan specific forums so you know what to look for. |
Jerry I don't mean to be too personal but your wife is a total cutie!
|
If you are going to get a Macan, do some research about cam/ timing chaing cover bolts. I believe it's ECS Tuning that has found a solution that is a lot less than the dealership pricing. Also do a bit of research on the PDK transmission with Macans. Lastly, transfer cases (like 958 Cayennes). Not trying to scare you, just bringing to light potential problems you want to keep in mind when looking to purchase one.

I have a 2010 957 base. 86K on the clock. Less is more with these cars. Mine has the VR6 engine, strut suspension and not a lot of bells and whistles. it's rock solid, handles like a sports car even at 5000+ pounds. fun to drive. You can buy them stupid cheap right now, but keep in mind it's still a Porsche. So when it breaks, it's very expensive to fix. The desirable ones are pre 2011. They share a lot of parts with the VW Toureg and Audi Q7 so if your DIY always compare prices on the same part for all three models.
My only complaint is even with the 6 cylinder engine it only get 16 MPG and drinks premium fuel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735232422.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735232422.jpg |
Targa911s that is a nice blue color . Well done sir 👏

Thanks! Marine blue metallic. Tan guts. I get comps on the color combo all the time. I added the GTS 21" wheels for summer. I have 19"wheels with Toyo all season tires for winter. It is a sweet beast. |

Thank you gents ... next time I will take Steve's advice and save a few bucks... She's mine :D This place rocks ... thank you all :) |
Heresy I know but you can do a lot worse than a Touareg. Had 3 over the years.
The diesel was the pick of the bunch - towed better than my Ram. |
