I looked into having it done a few years back. Mine was not giving me any pain unless I wore tight shoes or boots, so I decided not to do it.

How long of a recovery time are they giving you?

I did not know I had a cheilectomy at all.

My wife just had shoulder surgery to remove bone spurs, and clean up some bursa and arthritis. You likely will not be dancing for a while! And no showers either without a plastic bag on your foot.

Good luck! Ain't old age the "Golden Years"

a week in a medical shoe, and six weeks in a rocker bottom shoe. Regular shoes as tolerable after that.

At first my Ortho wanted to fuse my toe, but I wasn't having it. I was adamant that if I couldn't wear heels after recovery, I wasn't doing surgery. Mind you, the one joint doesn't bend now, and I still wear 2.75" heels every day, and pretty much all day. He had me walk around the room in my heels, and then agreed not to fuse it. Instead he's going to put in synthetic cartilage. He said I should be able to wear heels in three months depending on how fast I mend.

Another year or two and you'll have a thumb that can be used to grab things!

We still don't. Are you saying you had one, but had to look up the name to realize that's what it was?

Dixie...
My podiatrist gave me a 6 month recovery time for the surgery...I didn't want that.
I'm 71 and it doesn't bother me at all walking or doing daily activities.

I'm waiting for the commercial that will tell me what to buy (drug) for a bent toe.

Have you got a knipex plier? You could definitely fix that yourself or get a friend to help!

Maybe something that makes them bendy and rubbery. Don't mind the side effects.

That's what I'm afraid of....the never ending list of side effects.

Yep, a set of 10" Cobras should straighten that right out!

If you start walking in circles, may want to check back in with the Doc!

No pain?? Man, that’s crazy!

I don't want to mess-up Dixie's thread...but no, I feel no pain unless I wear shoes that are too narrow. I used to love snow skiing...but that's out because of the boots.

I wear strappy shoes for the same reason. Living in Florida I can get away with that.

And no worries about inducing thread drift. That's what threads are supposed to do.

Basically removing a bone spur, not as bad as recovery from an osteotomy
