Tis The Season For Credit Card Fraud
Just got whacked for over a grand on my Bank Of America credit card. Charge came up as Fed Ex. Wouldn’t hurt to check your accounts.

I check my accounts daily. I download them into my Quicken. Any funny business I see right away.
Several years ago my CC company called me. I asked for her extension, and called the number on the back of my CC. She answered, so I knew it was real. She asked if I had been in Italy buying a lot of expensive scuba gear. I assured her I was at home, and never buy scuba gear. They sent me a new card right away. Now I get a text asking if unusual charges are legit.

Not just credit cards....I was recently notified about "unusual activity" on my bank debit card.
Not only do I never use my bank-issued debit card (except at the bank branch where it is required for in-person transactions, like an ID) the charges were to a retailer I have never used and will never use. Luckily, it was caught before the transactions were posted to the account (they were still in a pending state) so it was easy to invalidate the transactions and the card #. The only issue now is that have have to go to the bank branch to get a new ID/debit card. |

I get a text message whenever there’s any activity on ANY of my accounts.

I stick to Amex for almost all my online stuff.
The only exception is the prime card for Bezos’s octopus - 5% back > membership rewards. Amex is pretty proactive and good at removing stuff without a huge hoop jumping exercise. Of course it costs $$$ - and since I’m not traveling as much since covid the benefits aren’t as good - but those few times it’s needed it is worth it. YMMV. |
