back to work ...

Hit my banked vacation limit last year and due to needs didnt take any time off until October

Since 10/15 I have had 3 weeks of one day a week work (still gotta teach), the full week of thansgiving off, two 4 day weekends, and the college has been closed from 12/20 until we go back tomorrow ...

Gonna talk to boss about putting in time for the coming year now, might opt for a 4 day weekend once per month to use what I will earn over the year and a week in spring, summer and fall so I dont miss so much time back to back to back

I never had the problem of letting vacation daze accumulate past Sept. .

I accumulated "comp time" for weekend (midnight-6am maintenance window) and 40 hour straight emergencies ... soooo ...

I had a lot of vision problems too .... "... can't see myself showing up today"... and all vacations were followed by a "sick day" .... to recover.

I don't miss it....

My problem spending the vacation time has been all of my other obligations. My teaching is an extra contract on the side - but HR says I can't use PTO on a day that I teach and still show up to teach. And for 5 years I was teaching 2 classes per term and taking 2 or 3 classes per term, so time off during the term was a day here or there, but never a week or more at a shot. And then we always get all the fed/bank holidays, plus a few extra at thanksgiving, plus being closed and off with pay for 2-3 weeks for the winter break, plus a week off for Spring break at my birthday, and other than teaching I don't think I've worked more than 45 or 50 hours in a week ever and that was while learning a new tech stack .... so it isn't like I don't get time off even without putting in a leave form.....

Just checked, I have 298 hours of vacation time and 648 hours of sick time banked... I can get up to 900 of the sick hours I think (all paid out when I retire in a few years) and any vacay over 350 hours I lose on 1/1 of each year
