The Good People Among Us

The thread about people who do weird and/or hateful stuff made me think about good things folks do without being asked.
Yesterday my wife picked up our granddaughter from school and took her to emergency. Being low on the triage criteria, (migraine), it was several hours before the doctor was available. Part way through their wait, the wife was trying to get something from a vending machine. The device would not accept her $5 bill. After a few tries, a lady approached and passed her a bill to try. That one worked and she accepted my wife's bill in exchange. Later, a fellow was getting set to "make a run to Tim Hortons" and asked if he could pick something up for her. By that time relief was in sight, so she declined with thanks. She later said she was struck by the sense of community in the waiting room.
There are good people out there. I've been fortunate to meet many of them.

Best
Les

I was on call for 24 hours on NYE(6a 12/31 to 6a 01/01). On the way back to HQ after a call (around 0100) we went the local WaWa for coffee and.

We were a crew of four and online with our stuff when a guy behind us said "I got you guys". I said "thank you sir thats kind ..." He cut me off and said "you guys got me to the hospital just in time a couple of weeks ago, coffee and cookies is nothing".

IDK if it was our crew or not. The calls all start to blur into one another after a while. But it sure was a nice gesture.

Despite what the media would like to have you believe, the majority of Americans are great people.

I run into a lot of great people, and always have. The wankers are the minority, but certainly stick in the memory.

Frome time to time, my mind turns to people like David, whose stories reveal he did honor to his uniform and to Seahawk, whose relationship with Mr Curtis inspired a bunch of Pelicans to reach out to help a man they had never met.
We have folks on here who adopt stray critters, who volunteer and mentor.
Life is pretty good when you know there are people like that around.

More with the good...

We should have known better, but we stopped in Chinatown-Oakland on our way back from the Primus concerts (they still Suck, btw). Of course there was no cover on the cargo area.

During our quick 30-min run through a grocery and their mall, we got the full Oakland experience. Back window popped and bags gone.

Late-to-the-game common sense kicked in and we started the process. Took notes on the spot, photos, called OPD to report, went in our new 1/4-of-a-convertable to the OPD offices nearby.

A very fine, lovely, good person found a pile of bags on the sidewalk a mile or three away. She found our ph# on a bag and called us - after grabbing the meds and a passport(!) that she found in the pile.

Thanks to this young lady, and her mom, we got 90% of our stuff back but for three beat-down and old iPads. They also got my pretty cool Osprey pack and a very sentimental zipper pull. This family did the right thing and they were so sad that we might think less of their town.

Now - I have only this girl's mobile number and the intersection nearest her house. We didn't exchange addresses (yes, dumb on me). If I can find her she's due one heck of a gift. How can I give someone something, probably e-cards/etc..., with only a phone number?

Yes. 24 years ago a young woman gifted my wife and a child. We saw her and her family yesterday. Human benevolence is huge.

Wow .... I bet that was an awesome experience yesterday.

Good people outnumber the bad by a huge margin imo .... but it's not attention grabbing headline $tuff.

Mebbe it should be ?

problem is the recipient may think it is spam/phish/hack

If it were me I’d send a text explaining who I am and ask for an address to mail a thank you card to. That’s a great story, I would 100% send them a nice gift card.
