Netflix rate hike

Could see this one coming.
Netflix raises rates about $2 per month on all three tiers of usage. Saying that a big reason for the hike is their start of NFL game coverage.

That's fine...but if they raise it, shouldn't the cable bill go down because they no longer will carry those games??

The middle rate will be $17.99 on the next billing.

So I'm gonna pay $24 more annually to watch one NFL game? Gonna have to drop them.

Thank you, I just cancelled that and Hulu! Not much of interest to watch on those channels anyways.

I'm on a constant rotation based on series ending, it's tiring honestly.. I get annoyed when I miss the cancel deadline by a day and must pay $10 for another month ! And then when you cancel they go "oh stay 6 more months for only $2.99".... I did not like how expensive cable was for decades, this IS cheaper overall but pretty high maintenance unless you wanna pay for all.
Just dropped Apple TV (silo ended), paramount + (lionness and landmen ended), did not renew MGM+ (not much there), I've reached the end of the internet TV wise ;-) Not a ton on Hulu, Peacock has IMSA and is cheap so it's the only keeper...

normal laws of supply and demand would dictate a decrease - given the increase in "readership". no?

The only tier that has ads (one) is the $7.99/month rate.

edit: sorry, I guess you can opt for ads with any tier and get a discount rate

I was just talking to my wife about all these channels, it's funny how everyone switched to stream to get rid of the commercials, then the streaming companies said "we need to make MORE money" so they re-tiered and introduced commercials, so now you have to pay not to have them; pathetic...

From my use perspective Netflix is getting worse, not better. I don't even look at their original stuff any more. All garbage.

I just sprung for the sports channels (+ other crap) for $80/month only to find out Mondays are Amazon Prime night and they have hockey for members only which is the only reason I bought it.

My wife likes to subscribe to streaming services.
That goes against my very core, but in the big picture
it amounts to not much more than the change found
under the sofa cushions and it makes her happy.
Happy wife happy life.
But no friggin disney, I draw the line there!!!

I do watch the services from time to time though.
Might as well get my money's worth.

A few observations:
Paramount: not used much.
Not worth the price of admission but still has "some" value.

Peacock network: subscription is pretty much worthless.

Amazon: good for Thursday NFL football, top gear, and F1 channel.
Not much else.

Netflix: the clear winner. So much more (better) content.
Ratio of me watching netflix vs all the other streaming services
has got to be 10 to 1 now that they've toned down the stupid woke stuff.
I will pay more for Netflix and not complain, if money were an issue Id
just cancel some of the other services.
IOW, Netflix has earned the pay increase.

In the end there will be netflix and "maybe" amazon if Bezos
wants to keep throwing money at it.

The big losers will be the cable providers.
No sympathy for them or their mafia handlers.

I have every streaming service known to man and can’t stand any of them. I keep them for my wife…who by the way doesn’t know how to operate the remote control. If there is anything I enjoy watching, I’ve seen it hundreds of times or own it on dvd, blue ray, or 4K disc. The only series I have enjoyed in recent years is Slow Horses but the damn season is over in the blink of an eye and you gotta wait another year. I have tried to watch Game of Thrones at least a dozen times and can’t get through the first season. Thought I would love it because I am a big fan of LOTR. People tell me I need to stick with it because it gets better…..what say you?

Stick with it. I'm not a fantasy fan but grew into it.
It's totally confusing and jumpy until you get all the names and sides and figure out where they are coming from. Like the 'Rome' series every scene is visually lush and does it's job for the plot. And (spoiler alert) at the end of it all, you might look back and start thinking about all the clues again. There are some deeper ideas hidden in it which will challenge your moral stance.

Back on topic, I think tv should be paying viewers to watch ads.

Maybe one of these days we can have a thread dedicated to talking about how awful the Apple TV remote is. I have that on my main system in family room. Oh how I hate it. I have 5 other tvs around here all with Rokus. Switching between the two is like going from hiking in flip flops to a pair of On Cloudwhatevers. Worst tech product ever. Shame on Apple.
