You know who he is, a Pelican since 2002, you remember him for many of his very interesting posts.
Notable posts include nearly getting into a fight at CostCo, working UFC fights, PSAs about safeguarding your family and money, gun safety, insight about well publicized legal cases and perhaps his most popular threads “Tales from a Street Cop.”
The guy comes across as a pretty decent guy here on the forum, well let me tell you he is not a decent guy.
He’s an AWSOME guy!
David DMed me out of the blue about a month ago and said he wanted to take me out to dinner to meet me. We had to delay our meeting because of the Southern California fires but we were finally able to get together last night.
We met at the reception area of the Clearman’s NorthWoods Inn at San Gabriel CA and immediately bonded over “Jack” the Bear, the restaurant’s official mascot. David gave me some sage advice about bear attacks “you won’t be able to out run them.”

Once we settled into our seats we began speaking as if we were old friends. It was amazing how many Pelicans he has personally met over the years and the stories behind the meetings. Notably, one time in Pasadena maybe 15 years years ago he met up with several Pelicans and ended up going with Grady Clay to Grady’s childhood home near the Rose Bowl. Grady wanted to see his old house so David walked right up to the door, knocked, explained the situation to the homeowner and got a tour for Grady of his old house.
Then there was the story how Jack Olsen drove to David’s house to help troubleshot and repair an electrical gremlin in David’s 1983 SC in record time. Jack said he was happy to help and wouldn’t accept any type of renumeration.
We swapped war stories, car stories, shared family stories and three and a half hours later found ourselves closing up the restaurant with the employees.
David expressed how much he likes Pelican and the characters who reside here. We gossiped about many of you but don’t worry, David didn’t have a bad word to say about any of you, me on the other hand . . .
The point of this post is to stop and smell the roses. I’m glad we took the time out of our busy schedules to meet, though David now says he is retired and has a lot of free time I know he still is keeping pretty busy. Something tells me if I ever get stuck he’ll be there to save my bacon.
In a world of crazies, it’s nice to know there are some real solid folks out there.
