I was at the Doc's yesterday. I haven't worn a mask in 2 years and haven't seen many, but everyone there had one on. Doc told us to put masks on and wash our hands on the way out. Flu is really bad here.

Unless they were handing out N95 masks you should find a new doctor, because yours is an idiot.

You mean embracing reality? Yes, yes we are.

The current state of science on public masking- No significant evidence it prevents spread of flu or other respiratory virus.

https://www.cochrane.org/CD006207/ARI_do-physical-measures-such-hand-washing-or-wearing-masks-stop-or-slow-down-spread-respiratory-viruses

We had the bird flu (2009) back in December. My wife had the flu shot and I abstained. First week symptoms and duration were identical. I did have a lingering cough longer than her but this is typical. The flu shot was a swing and a miss this round. I am more likely to cough, she is more likely to hurl. I attribute this to lung damage while training in SoCal during the worst smog events in US history 1968-1974.

Something that has been extensively studied and well known for at least 20 years. Except for that period of time where we were following the science. It’s not even hard to understand. Masks have holes in them, the holes are a known size. Viruses have a known size. When the virus is smaller than the hole, it can pass through the hole. Simple.

Wearing a mask is probably worse than not wearing one.

Unless you are wearing it for smoke or particulates, that is different.

The last time I got a flu shot was in the 90's and I swear it almost killed me. I was down for a week.

Like the COVID one, I will never get another.

Years go by... and still things seem the same.

javadog 02-15-2025 05:15 AM

You can't teach a liberal anything. They are brainwashed. And, they never had even the common sense that God gave a mule.

Went to a used bookstore the other day. Every single employee was masked up, with cloth masks. Assuming they weren't cos-playing....

onewhippedpuppy 02-15-2025 06:22 AM

I have no issue with people choosing to wear a mask. Whatever makes you feel safe, it’s a placebo but whatever. What bothers me is people telling me to wear a mask that does absolutely nothing. You can do whatever you want, but don’t infringe on my rights.

javadog 02-15-2025 06:47 AM

The problem with stupid people is that they also play a role in your life, like it or not. I spent yesterday afternoon untieing a Gordian knot that was knitted over the last 10 days by incompetent morons in a physicians office. What should have taken less than 10 minutes to accomplish 10 days ago wasn't going anywhere until I physically went to the physician's office, grabbed the incompetent little twat by her ear and made her do her f'ing job. NOW.

What in the world is a Gordion knot?

javadog 02-15-2025 10:23 AM

From wiki:

"a metaphor for a seemingly intractable problem which is solved by exercising brute force."

Many words on ancient Greek history, here:

My father has norovirus right now. Maybe from restaurant seafood but probably from living in an assisted care home where it travels fast.

As WD's doctor says wash your hands - WITH soap (lose the sanitizer) long time.

You indirectly injest feces that has the virus.

Oh man that's nasty stuff. "Fecal Oral" mmmmmmmm. Yep proper hand washing goes a long way towards prevention. Disclaimer:/ the following is not medical advice even if it looks like it is. If they aren't already doing it, see if he's using a good probiotic to rebuild/mantain gut health. Kefir is terrible tasting stuff but a great probiotic. Greek yogurt is also a good one. Out of the box it seems Florastor (Saccharomyces boulardii) is the preferred because it's yeast based and isn't supposed to be affected by antibiotics.

Hope your dad makes a full recovery.

Got a text from my sister that he is getting color back last night. Thanks!

Nick, I'ill pass the probiotic info to my sister who lives near him. She is a nurse so will appreciate the value plus will push it's use.
