CD Player, please help me identify from description.
 

Hi,

I have done several google image searches by brands and models, but haven’t been able to figure it out.

I seem to remember that back in the eighties there was a company making a CD player along with possibly pre amps and amps that were black in color with rounded corners and most importantly extremely clean front panels with very few buttons, etc.

I would think these were mid to high range components, but not crazy expensive. They were sold by Audio King here in MN.

I thought it might have been called CD-1 and made by Adcom or ADS, but my searches haven’t found what my mind remembers. I really think the brand started with an “A”, but we all know how well our brains work after 40 years!

Anyone have a guess or info?

Don’t think it was AIWA, I think it was higher end and not as mass produced.

I did do an image search on AWIA and didn’t turn up anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I should search audio brands that start with A, although I’m not positive that it did start with A.

Just searched ADC and couldn’t find what I was looking for either

Thanks for the guess, I should have been clearer, the front is a flat rectangle and just the corners are rounded in just one plane.

No sheiße! I knew they made speakers. My dad had a killer set that I'd give a toe to have today. I had no idea that they made components.

Not it, unfortunately. The rounded corners are what I remember, but in black, no handles and maybe half as high as that unit.

Theta??? I know, doesn’t start with an ‘A’ but, I remember them being pretty sano, rounded front face plate corners.

I was wracking my brain trying to remember the name "nakamichi" but the only thing that I could remember was "dragon". Certainly not many buttons.

NAD is also know for clean front panels but, I don’t remember them having rounded corners.

Any other clues on the style of the transport tray?

I seem to remember it having just a slot not a tray.

Alpine made some back then...AD-7200 for example.

That’s wild, I thought they only did car stereo. I took a look at the pictures and it isn’t what I’m looking for though.

So, is it a curved front like some Marantz CD players, or with rounded off corners but flat on the front?

I originally thought he meants #1, but now I think he means #2 - flat, rectangular front with rounded corners.

Thanks Steve, there are flat fronted Marantz CD players with rounded corners but the tend to have a whole to of buttons. Opposite to a Cambridge Audio with almost no buttons.

Not curved. Not starting with an A. But Oppo? Very clean looking.

Classe. If you google images for Classe CD they had numerous variants with rounded edges.
