DeWalt cordless sawzall?

I need to get a cordless recip saw and as I've been collecting DeWalt tools lately I'm considering theirs. They have two, the base model and the XR.

Online reviews are mixed for both.

Is there any experience here with DeWalt's recip saws?

I beat the crap out of my XR on an almost daily basis. Very happy with it.

XR will do the job.

Thanks!

I have an XR it's great!

I have a few Sawzalls...but this is the one I use the most. I wore the top one out. The bottom is the replacement and is brushless.

I like it because you can use it with only one hand.

I have the Dewalt XR and no complaints. I'm also happy with the battery powered 4.5" grinder which gets far more use than the reciprocal saw

Not a Dewalt, but I've had a Bauer battery powered recip saw from Harbor Freight for a couple years now...it is great.

Not sure which one mine is but it uses the 20 vmax lithium battery and takes a beating. Get at least the 5ah battery. FWIW I have the impact driver, drill/hammer drill, circular saw, sawzall, and the 1/2" impact. I was unhappy with the circular saw until I went to 5ah batteries.

That is pretty much my shelf as well except for the hammer/drill.

Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, al the same or very similar. They can all take a pretty good beating. I have found some batteries power tools don't last as long as others. For the most part, it isn't that important if the run time is two minutes more or less.

I have an old 18v DeWalt and it is still kicking after all these years. It is beaten up, but still works fine. The last thing I used it on was to cut up some heavu duty steel shelves to throw in my rubbish can

Something I'd like to mention. The home depot 2 tools for less than the price of one direct from Dewalt seemed odd to me so years ago I grilled a Dewalt sales guy on the subject. He finally admitted that the Dewalt tools you buy at Home Depot are specifically made for HD and even though they look the same they are not. You get what you pay for and I only buy direct.

Yup. The same goes for their appliances. Check product item codes before you buy.

And the generic Li batteries are dirt cheap on eBay! Plus, they keep a charge for a very long time and are ready to go when I need it.

They are called a B tool, sold through home centers. I did some tool demo for Bosch a few times at shows and they have a B internal number. Not the same, plastic gea4rs and such. Looks identical.

A930Rocket 02-22-2025 04:59 PM

^^^ What about tools bought on Amazon? Are they B tools also? Is the B in the model number?

I have 10 or do Dewalt tools, including an old saws all with an adapter, to use the new batteries.

Some of my tools with model numbers.

I have a Porter*Cable along with a couple other tools of theirs and love the cordless option.

Brian 162 02-22-2025 05:24 PM

I used to have the 18 volt sawzall. I used it every day at work, it wet and cold conditions . It worked like a champ, the batteries lasted a couple of years.
