Uh, oh. Anybody else get this????

Just checked my bank balance. Social Security deposited over $6K into my account yesterday. My usual deposit isn't util the twelfth. Anybody else experience this? I'm fully expecting it to be a mistake that will have to be corrected and returned. Is this kind of thing going to be the new normal? Not intended for PARF.

Blame it on the DOGE.

Nothing extra in mine.

I have noticed the last few months they are doing it a week early.

Was the amount ($6K) correct - just not the date?

Or are both incorrect?

My deposit is a normally week later than yours so nothing here yet.

Yes, I worked for a school district for 30 years. The small amount of social security I get is based on my prior income years before. I took all the talk about social security for teachers, firefighters, & law enforcement with a grain of salt. Until I hear otherwise, I'm planning on the possibiltity of having to return it.

So no party yet, Steve.

Those retro payments were going out this month. Your normal SS amount will also go up.

SSA statement

https://blog.ssa.gov/social-security-announces-expedited-retroactive-payments-and-higher-monthly-benefits-for-millions-actions-support-the-social-security-fairness-act/

People who will benefit from the new law include some teachers, firefighters, and police officers in many states; federal employees covered by the Civil Service Retirement System; and people whose work had been covered by a foreign social security system.

Many beneficiaries will be due a retroactive payment because the WEP and GPO offset no longer apply as of January 2024. Most people will receive their one-time retroactive payment by the end of March, which will be deposited into their bank account on record with Social Security.

They've decided to just shut SS down, and figured "let's throw the last bit in the account at the last guy." You won the SS lottery! LOL!

They aren't that much, but the checks for people that missed their stimulus check/checks were sent out the last couple weeks. Direct deposit by SSA

Being an even dollar amt....I'm betting that's what it is.

Same day for me but bank pays early. Monday morning at 10:00am. Like clockwork. However if Monday is an observed holiday, I get it on the prior Friday.

No Thursday receipts, tho, like Marv.

They don't make mistakes. I bet it's Marv's but I would not buy a used boat with it just yet.

Marv, go to your SS online account. I bet you have a letter in there telling you of the increase.

You should also be getting a letter in the mail. From the SSA link.

Anyone whose monthly benefit is adjusted, or who will get a retroactive payment, will receive a mailed notice from Social Security explaining the benefit change or retroactive payment. Most people will receive their retroactive payment two to three weeks before they receive their notice in the mail, because the President understands how important it is to pay people what they are due right away. Social Security is expediting payments using automation and will continue to handle many complex cases that must be done manually, on an individual case-by-case basis. Those complex cases will take additional time to update the beneficiary record and pay the correct benefits.

Thanks for your input gentlemen. Sooner or later, I'll hang on to your 10% for a while. I'm not rich or poor, but I have a bit of negative feelings about the government handing out money like this - including the stumulus payments during Covid. Not enough to make individual differences, but a lot in total, which could be put to better use for the country as a whole.

Depending on the state where one worked it was earned money. In some states the worker paid full payroll taxes yet when benefits were calculated the benefit was reduced due to the teacher pensions being received. This increase and reteo pay is only correcting that lower pay and giving those workers the exact same benefit that I am receiving.

It is not a handout. It was earned.

Since it's not my money, sounds fair.
