The camper/ tow rig thread
Let's see your campers/ tow rigs-
I just put this rig together for general camping, car show towing etc... it's a 2006 Lance 915 on a 99 7.3 4x4 manual crew cab dually. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742217848.jpg |
How does it ride? I bought an 02 7.3 for exactly this. Haven’t gotten the camper yet. I have thoughts and questions.

2017 R-Pod. Nice and light, big enough for two (sleeps 4) and the only way to get the Wife to sleep outdoors.
Apparently bears and wolves are a big threat when sleeping outdoors in Germany (thanks Bros Grimm). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742227066.jpg Behind the now gone 4 Runner, now towed with a F150 3.5 Ecoboost. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742227137.jpg |
It rides really nice but the truck also has a larger spring pack in the rear so it's barely touching the overload springs with the camper in (approx 2500 lbs)

2015 Itasca Navion on a MB Sprinter chassis. We got this in Oct. 2020 after selling our home and waiting for our next home to be completed. We traveled 30 states and 20k miles over the next 6 months during the height of the pandemic. For 2 adults and one 70lb dog it worked out pretty great. |
What is everyone seeing for prices since the COVID frenzy?
It appears there are parking lots full of trailers here waiting to be sold. |

My wife's pride and joy. 2016 Lance 2185 towed with a 24 F150 Hybrid. The nice thing is the truck has the 7.2kw Propower generator.

Not all of the ones I have had, but here is since 2011....
This was great for a quick overnight get a way, much better when my kids were smaller. 1978 Westfalia http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742235475.jpg Bought this 2011 Keystone Raptor Toy Hauler new and it went everywhere with me until last year. We used this hard and it was great. Here it is during the 2023 hunting season at about 9,500 feet. I had just gotten there so not set up yet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742235609.jpg Bought this used in February of '24 with 5,500 miles on it and saved $75K off the discounted price of a new one. 2023 Entegra Accolade XT built on a 4wd F550 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. Have put about 5,000 miles on it so far and the biggest change for me was switching from a towed rig to a SuperC. Already have a bunch of trips planned this year including taking it 1,800 miles one way to SPAC to see Phish this July. I have used the 4wd multiple times, it was the hunting rig this year and saw snow like my old one did. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742235865.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742235887.jpg |

^So awesome, have come close to buying an Airstream more than once. The killer for me is I would have to double pull or take another vehicle to pull the toys behind it.
|
that F550 is sick!! what kinda MPG do you get?
|
Holy cow that's rad!

Appreciate it ryans65, since I can work remotely it has been my office away from home on more than one occasion.... I drive then pull over and throw on a dress shirt for the TEAMS call and no one is the wiser! |
10mpg is pretty good!!! really good considering.

I don’t have the truck or trailer anymore, but this is what I had years ago. A 1964 Streamline trailer and a 2006 3/4 ton dodge PU.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742245184.jpg

My truck tent. I've been using it for the last 10 years, about 3 times a year. Sebring, Road Atlanta and Daytona. It's no RV Motorcoach but I paid $400 for it so you can't beat the cost per night. Everything in the photo packs into the bed under the cover. It's survived a rainstorm once at Daytona HSR that seemed like a hurricane without leaking a drop and one year at the Rolex that was below freezing. This shot is at the '24 Rolex early morning.

That was the longest night of my life last October. Now in my 60's with sleep apnea it wasn't the same as in my 20's with the 100# girlfriend....I've had this bus since the 80's.

Was tired of staying at dive hotels near race tracks so decided to start camping at the track. :)
Picked up this used Lance 850 for our Ram dually. It has 200 watt solar panels and a lithium battery. Slide in campers are small but still great for a long race weekend and with the camper installed can easily tow my 8,000lb loaded race car trailer. Slide in campers have no registration, no insurance, no tax if private party, no engine, no smog, no tires aging out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742265683.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742265699.jpg Dually had to get a big rear sway bar and Torklift stable loads on the rear springs and heavy duty shocks all around. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742265869.jpg Had to get the hitch extension and the weight distribution hitch and the frame mounted camper tie downs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742265924.jpg Added a front hitch and bike rack. Race car trailer loaded left no room for the bikes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742266277.jpg <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/449VptmFtBo?si=ZUzsYFm4RRlypeaj" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

The old VW campers with the 6 foot long shift rod was terrible to shift.
It felt inevitable on a family vacation that a missed shift was going to mechanically over rev the engine. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ThP0JXL8jmg?si=dA_4gWI-aHzTcFCV" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
here is our 2003 Winnebago Vista 21B. Uses a VW Eurovan drivetrain, gets about 18mpg. They only made about 940 of them for three years. They are perfect for two people, thou they say it sleeps five. Has everything a big unit has, but is only 21' long, which is shorter than a four door full size pickup truck. I just listed it for sale if anyone is interested.

We lived in this for 2 years, 2 months, and 22 days while I built our house… we sold it and said never again. I just bought another one (not as fancy this time) to use wheel we build our house on our vacation / retirement property… |
Byron, you're killing me... I was looking for one of these before buying my lance truck camper I just got a few weeks back!!!
What are you asking for it? Quote:

we bought this last year at an estate sale. Good bones but sat next to a corn field a few years. Slowly getting it back into shape. Moved the batteries to the rear and swapped to two 200ah LiFePo and added an inverter because living on 12v only sucks sometimes.
