Do you find your weekends restful?
Okay you retired folks can suck it…:D. “Everyday is Saturday!” Oh good for you! Haha. Love you, jealous of you.
The working stiffs. Talking to you. You rest fully the weekend? Recharge? Catch up on sleep? Non stop sex? (Okay, took it too far) I’m tired. Monday blah! I fished all day Saturday at a far-away lake. Sunday, long morning run, shower and did chores and meal prep. This included a fresh sourdough loaf. Then I washed my truck which gets me feeling guilty, so I washed my wife’s car. I not feeling recharged except mentally. Good mood. And i’m taking tomorrow off to go back to that lake. I can feel “it”. There is a big girl there waiting for me. A largemouth bass, female … |
no, my recharge me times are usually Monday evenings, and Thursday evenings.
I have standing date times, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. and we host family dinner tuesday. this weekend for example, i was at micky 17 on friday night (date), picked up my new miata from my partners place, and brought it over to my place satruday morning, then went to the omnitheater for a fugi movie, into sushi/ramen, into overnight date. the sunday, we talked houses and real-estate with the group that we plan to buy the next house with, and then went to a Jurassic park themed theater production (date), into watching a movie, getting dinner, and then another movie (date). pretty typical vis a vis weekend. |
Shoot, I work harder at home on weekends than at work on weekdays.
Look forward to Mondays to finally rest! |
I go to work to rest! (and surf Pelican OT)

Yes and no. Getting away from work, and doing some stuff around the house can still be restful (sense of accomplishment for the day, and then some relaxing in the evening). Some weekends are so packed with work that they are not restful at all. Most weekends are somewhat restful. I do take the occasional weekend (maybe a 5-10 per year) where I mostly don't do anything and those are very restful, but not terribly common.

I'm out :D

Ha, hell no! I still have kids, this weekend was a baseball tournament and trying to get stuff done between weeks of work travel. Next weekend my wife will be going to a college Greek event with my daughter and I’ll hopefully be finishing a hardwood floor because the next month of weekends is more baseball. People tell me I’ll miss this phase, I think not so much…

I'm relieved when its Monday. |
It depends, my kids were home from college for Spring Break this weekend so it was pretty busy.
A lot depends on the weather, I would say I get more down time during the winter than I do in the warmer months. If I have been on the road a lot for work and things back up at home, I am typically pretty busy. I will say though that without the kids at home and sports activities I do get more done during the week nights that I used too. I am hoping to get the oil changed on my side x side this week and adjust the spring pre-loads on all four corners prior to my Moab trip next week. Also need to do a few things on the kids Fox Body Mustang and take a shot at emissions again. Normally that would all be weekend stuff, now I can do it during the week. |
I’m preparing myself for those 4 hours of yard work each week once the grass gets growing. I hate yard work. Then there is always something else.
|
I know you said "no retired" folk..... But I work harder now than I ever did during my career. More of a labor of love but keeping up 3 acres in the woods is no easy task.
|
Never Restful! I feel like I have so many projects that I will never catch up. On occasion, I'm too tired on a Saturday and so I watch TV all day but then resume on Sunday. I'm not complaining though, just exhausted.

After houses, kids, and a more than 65hr a week job (plus college), it became a haze of trying to complete work and manage kids/shopping/etc. I had money for arts and materials but not time to get projects done. Once kids were gone, some relief, no college, back to some rest and nonstop sex. Still long hours at work and stuff to finish in weekends. Now, no longer a job and waste much time on internet and TV. Have small grandkids but a pain to travel to visit and they tire us out. I am still tired as it is hard to sleep...even though I can sleep all day if I choose. Plenty of projects and no issue finding time and money for parts/materials...but little ambition to do them. Very hard to complete them once started. Weekends are just like any other day...except traffic patterns are different if I want to go somewhere...a bit boring again. |
Define restful. Sitting around doing nothing, or going on a long hike or other strenuous activity? I find strenuous activity in the Sierra or Santa Cruz Mountains to be the best way to reset my brain. Being out in beautiful natural settings is a big part of it.

I admit that I'm a workaholic. I've got to be doing something. I'm antsy on weekend mornings because I wait until 9 to make noise with my tools. I'm bored silly on vacations. We go see friends in Hawaii and i always end up working on their house or yard "you guys go to the beach, I'm fine". When I'm working on a project at my house I'm planning the next one on my list in my head. My wife thinks I'm nuts. She's probably right.
|
No, no, no, none of the above only the none stop sex is true. Get this, in the elevator, the back of my truck, behind the tree in the back yard, under the bleachers at my kid's volleyball game. All the normal stuff. You?
|
Restful? No. Relaxing? Yes. I do my walks at my woods on the weekends and that relaxes me. It clears my mind and it recharges me.
