How to add power mirrors/windows
Hey guys , my 2001 GMC diesel dually is an LS option truck . I guess it is one step above the work truck . Anyway it has manual mirrors and windows . It is an extended cab so only the front windows roll up/down .
After towing the 5th wheel camper I am thinking power mirrors would be a nice upgrade . Having power windows would be nice also but not as necessary as the mirrors . So what's the best way to do this ? I am assuming finding a similar year truck being parted out is the way to go ? Anyone know if an additional harness or harnesses are needed ? Is there any ECU coding needed ? |

I don't know for sure, but I suspect a 2001 would not require ECU programming. I'm guessing that if you can get the wiring/motors/etc... that you'll have all that you need.
I would guess that some of the wiring may be there, and you just need to figure out where the pigtails are. Good luck, some amenities are really great to have.

My 2001 VW Passat had power windows and seats with memory…so it had a control unit.

I think I'd take the interior door panel off and see if there's a harness in there. If so, you should be golden. If no, ya got work to do, or you just go manual extension and call it a day. I've driven my F250 with the mirrors extended all the way out without towing. Make em' like a Ronco... just set em' and forget em.
OOPS! I misunderstood what you wanted to be power! You've got old school manually adjusting mirrors. THE HORROR ![]() I'm looking through some diesel sites to see if anyone has a good writeup. Yikes! I don't know if this will apply to yours but here's a thread https://www.silveradosierra.com/threads/adding-oem-power-mirrors-windows-to-base-model.242242/

Does Kong have tow mirrors installed? I don't really mess with my mirror settings once I've got them set whether towing or not. But I have the tow mirrors that have one large mirror and a spotter mirror below.
My dad's Silverado had the weeny mirrors that I replaced with true towing mirrors. Made a huge difference.

[QUOTE=cabmandone;12452183] just go manual extension and call it a day. I've driven my F250 with the mirrors extended all the way out without towing. Make em' like a Ronco... just set em' and forget em.
![]() I also have manual tow mirrors on my dually and they have never been " in " Once they are set, no need to move them , and a huge field of vision . Im guessing adding power windows will be somewhat of a project .While, I bet the harnes is there, I would think there will be differences in the fuse block and BCM coding involved .

I’ve seen universal power window kits, but have not installed.
I have done a few heated seats. Not fun but not hard. Learned what a hog ring is. As to towing, I added a push button on the dash to turn on backup camera, it’s nice to check on the hitch while driving. Instead of electric mirrors, I see Amazon sells a 4 camera system for $200 and lane change cameras.

Replace your manual window regulators with power regulators. Then you just need to run a couple switches to the dash somewhere - or the armrest(?)
I did this to mine 3 years ago. Driver's Side
