I Love (Hate) Spring
I absolutely love spring time, the blooming flowers and gorgeous cherry blossoms. I am getting my butt kicked by the allergies. I have a nonstop drip and feel absolutely horrible.
I don't take any OTC medicine for the allergies because of BPH and other meds but something has to give. I'm seeing my family doctor Monday hopefully he will have a solution. Ok, that's it.

Have you considered a Navage or neti pot to flush the sinuses? It's what I use in the spring. I'm a glutton for punishment. I go out walking around in all that stuff looking for mushrooms several times a week.

It has only been in the last few years that the Pollen Cloud is an issue. It is awful.
I do have the Navage which is effective but I try and use it only once every few days. Two quick things: Eye drops: Use Systane Ultra or the Gel stuff. The Eye Doc that did my cataracts recommended the drops and they have been a real relief. So much better than Get the Red Out. Essential Oils and a humidifier: Every night even if it is not dry. I use a Honeywell unit because it has a nice bowl for the oils. I use a Voyenna Organic Congestion Blend that I found...it works for me. There is a lot of info on this stuff. Have fun. I rarely augment with OTC stuff. Best of luck.

I had terrible allergies, especially during the pollen season, but the medicine I take for anxiety and panic attacks, must dry up the sinuses. Of course, one of the side effects is I have a sandpaper tongue sometimes. That’s OK, I’ll take the sandpaper tongue over a nose constantly running and itchy eyes.
Edit: I have a couple of those small eyewash cups that I use tapwater to wash my eyes out, when they itch. Works like a charm. |

I've been using Flonase nasal spray nearly every day since returning from Korea. I had a cough, but it has pretty much gone away, but I still cough up some stuff during the night. I wake up feeling like I am choking!!! It is getting better though.

Your not supposed to use Flonase for more than a few days, according to my doc. I will try the nasal wash tonight and again in the morning.
Cheers

I pretty much quit using all the different sprays after I started doing a sinus rinse.

I grew up with over the top, horrible allergies, and they continued into my late 30s. Then I went to the Oklahoma Allergy clinic. They tested my for what I was allergic to with skin pricks on my upper arm. They whipped up a magic concoction of a dilute version of all of the things I was allergic to.
For a year, I had to go by their office twice a week. After a year with no real reaction, my wife started injecting me. Twice a week. The meds were mailed to our house. After 20 years of shots, I am pretty much cured of allergies to the grass and tree pollen. I don't need or take allergy meds anymore, except on very rare occasions. The shots were a 20 year "fix" and not very painful, but a bit expensive. In the end, I am 100% happy with the results. Find an allergy doctor near you and get a consult and tests.

Growing up in the Florida panhandle where there is a bit of a constant breeze, I never experienced any allergy issues until I moved to Alabama. I just looked at my instructions for using Flonase, and it says to use once a day as needed. They gave me 3 bottles of the stuff at the time, and I knew I wouldn't need all of that, so I gave one to my son.

I found Arm & Hammer Simply Saline works great, especially the extra strength one. No drugs in it so you can use it as often as you want.

Think that advice depends on your doc. I've been using Flonase every day for about 3 years now; it's far more effective for me than any other allergy med ever was. An employee of mine also uses it daily...as advised by his doctor.

If I drank more water, I'd be a fish (I drink A LOT of water).
I've heard about the local honey thing a lot but really haven't ever tried it.
