1980s 35MM SLR camera porn!!! (Not that kind)

Two minty 35MM legends! These were the cameras to have from early eighties even into 90s!

Now I need some glass. Open to any reconditions!

Beautiful.

I had a Canon FTb which was a poor man's version of the F-1 so I was fully aware of how cool they were.

Then I got a Canon AE1 which I expected to get a lifetime of pleasure from, but along came digital...

A Canon 135 F2 is easily the best lens my wife has. I call it the “magic lens.” When she has a WOW pic, it is most commonly from the 135.

...and I wake up and realize that the 135 is an EOS mount and probably won’t fit.

Those are in beautiful condition. Since these were pro-level cameras, most got used and abused. I've bought and sold a few over the years and they're usually pretty banged up. Where did you find them?

Japan on eBay. Apparently some people actually fly out to Japan just to shop the vintage camera shops. There is a street I believe lined with vintage camera shops of all formats.

Seems there is a real dealer network for vintage cameras in Japan.

I still have my black-bodied F2as.

An absolute beast of an SLR back in the day.

Film must be seeing a bit of a resurgance. I just sold our families Canon Super 8 camera from the late 70s on ebay for near $500.

I'd recommend looking for one of these for your F3...

Yes I want one I just hate to spend $700 + on a 50 mm lens.

I’ve had my eye on one of those for some time.

I bought a AF FX Nikkor 50MM F1.8 D for $108 new and feel like that was a good deal.

Not the lens above but a lot more reasonable price.

My brother gave me his F3; He'd kept it in beautiful shape, but he wasn't using it and he knew I like to display cool objects around my house.

Dang, this is inspiring me. I got my Dad's Cannon AE-1 that he bought new in the 70's. I even found the receipt. Pretty sure he spent more than a month's mortgage payment just on the camera and lens.

Ok so I added the Canon T series to my collection. These are so 1980s it hurts.so cool. You can definitely see Canon struggling with the Brass and Glass mindset of the 70s 80s SLR market that was not ready for the these metal chassis yet fiberglass bodied T series. You can see canon chose to build these cameras to resemble the previous generations brass bodied SLRs yet they are fiberglass bodies. Interesting to see the T90 was the first step towards the modern SLR bodies. Leaving the earlier T50 T70 T80 a curious link between the classic brass bodies and the modern “plastic/fiberglass” bodied SLR of the late 80s 90s.

Anyhow

Back in the 80's I did a lot of Dark Room photo work, college night classes were great to use the dark room. Bulk rolled my own 35mm film canisters. Buy 100-200 feet of B/W iso 200 or 400 film, bulk roll it into 24 or 36 exposures tins, and then develop and print later. It was fascinating doing printing with the Enlarger, exposure time, then into the developer and stop bath liquids waiting to see how your art turned out.

Are rangefinders allowed in this porn fest? I just sold my black G2 kit- I wasn't going to get around to using it. I still have some other film cameras, anyway. And some Sigma digitals that emulate film with their Foveon sensors.

Same here in the '70s.
Had a film leader break one night shooting a concert. Had my wife guarding the men's room door while I was in there salvaging the film in the dark!

Best

I have worked as professional photographer since before I could drive. I used a loot of film. The one thing I always loved about the Nikon F series was exactly what was on the film was what I saw in the viewfinder. Most cameras have a slightly larger film image that the viewfinder showed. That is fine for most folks, but when doing precise cropping it is very annoying.

I processed many 100s of thousands of roll of film, color slides, color negatives and B&W.

I just added a camera I've been after since 1970 or so to my stash.
This is the one that really got me interested in photography.

Both the camera and lens were bought off the Goodwill site via separate auctions.
