Yeah. Freeport Bahamas got hit by a storm in 2019 that moved very slowly, and its still devastated.
This storm is more powerful and moving slow.

If the above is true, why do I only see 70mph or so winds on windy.com?

The thing about hurricanes is they don't strike without any reasonable warning. Usually there's plenty of time to prepare.....
Navy evacuates nearly 900 from Cuba as Hurricane Melissa approaches The U.S. Navy relocated hundreds of nonessential personnel from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to safety over the weekend as Hurricane Melissa approaches landfall in the Caribbean, according to Naval Air Station Pensacola. Some 864 family members, civilian employees, contractors and pets were evacuated to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, on Saturday and Sunday in preparation for what weather forecasters are labeling a Category 5 hurricane, the highest category on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, with winds greater than 157 miles per hour. “The safety and well-being of our Navy family is always a primary concern,” said Capt. Chandra Newman, NAS Pensacola commanding officer. “The Sailors and civilian employees here are dedicated and adaptable, making sure they accomplish our Navy mission — and right now that’s taking care of our Navy family from Guantanamo Bay.” The storm is expected to hit Jamaica first and then Cuba, potentially impacting Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

Get off my lawn!

Quote:
Back when I was still a baby, a hurricane was approaching Lake Charles, LA and dad was under orders as a pilot, to get in "his" C-124 and crew and fly it to Oklahoma to be safe from the hurricane. Mom was left behind with a three year old, and a baby in a crappy rental house. Mom invited several other pilot's wives and their kids over to ride out the stor together. No satellites to show the storm, and just 1950s tech weather forecasting. Just sit and watch the windows.

Not much left of Jamaica, looks like a tornado went through there. I don’t think there’s a leaf on a single tree anywhere in the country.
