Need storm door that opens in and to left
I have a storm door on my porch that needs to be replaced.
To get into the house via the back porch, you walk up two steps from driveway and open the door with handle on the right and the door opens inwards and to the left. With a door that opens outward (everything I am seeing online), you would be standing on the steps and not able to open the door safely and likely not up to code Am I out of luck being able to replace this with the same type door? I can’t find one

go to homedepot or Lowes or who ever your store is, call up storm doors and there will be options for which hand and swing. Good luck

RF are you just talking about a heavy duty single door, metal clad or something with no windows?

doors only have two swings, right and left. if it is in-swinging (and agree not sure how that works with a storm door) the install is the same but reversed. And you would need to reverse the hardware. Should not be an issue

When I think of a storm door, I’m thinking of an aluminum and glass door that is installed on the outside of the casing and only opens out. Unless OP is referring to something else, I can’t see how anything he’s looking for would work. |

an inside door is an inside door whether storm or normal. Hangs the same way

I suspect the ask is for an entrance door with an inswing.

From my time in facilities maintenance and ordering doors, I seem to remember 4 different swings: right hand, left hand, right hand reverse and left hand reverse. I wasn’t smart enough to know what one to spec, but I was smart enough to draw a picture and email to my door company.
As pointed out, you wouldn’t be able to push a storm door inward if the regular door was closed, but possibly you just use a storm door only on that entry? I suspect that because a storm door is almost always used with an inner door and needs to swing out that you are going to have to go custom or possibly modify one.

I think you guys are missing the porch part of RF's request. The storm door he is seeking does not have an entry door right behind it. The way I understand it, you walk up a couple of steps, open a in-swinging door, and now you're on the porch. Take another couple of steps, and you're at the entry door of the house. Hanging a entry door on a porch would look odd. If there are 3 or more steps and no landing, the door must be in-swing.

Easy way to remember. Put your back against the hinge side. If it swings left (toward interior or in-swing), then left hand. Swings right (in-swing), then its a right hand door. If door swings outward, then call it left or right out-swing.

I don't know if its a regional thing... Ive been to so many homes, cabins, camps that have stairs going to porch or entrance where the door swings in...
The stair don't have a landing just right up to the door.. so the door swings in..... Standing on aa top step and swinging a door out is no bueno...

You would need a 36” deep landing to have an outswing door. Even that is awkward. |

Thanks for responses
It’s only a metal doors with a glass window held in by clips. The porch was added onto the back of the house probably 30 years ago. The door swings in and to the left I’ll try to take some pics in a bit I have learned that it’s called an inswing door but I am having difficulty finding one anywhere. At first I thought maybe they just don’t make these anymore but I can’t imagine e that is true

The handle sheered off and fell to the ground. I was going to just replace the handle mechanism but I remember about 5 years trying to replace it because the lock started acting unpredictable but could not locate a replacement. Maybe they are out there and I can just replace rather than the whole door but not sure
---the floor of the porch floor is sinking or sagging, not sure but a gap formed at the base of the door I am guessing from 10 years of the dogs dragging in rain and snow and it staying wet most of the winter ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks like a storm door mounted inside rather than out to me. Don't know how much you want to spend but the Larson door with a hidden spring and soft close is nice but it mounts about 1" away from the jamb rather than bring flush (if that makes sense).
Have you searched "in swing storm door handle". Seems like that swing style latch should be easy to find. https://www.swisco.com/In-swinging-Door-Latch/pd/Replacement-Storm-Door-Handles_Locks/40-028?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_HAIi60H1Bm7laMd-SDaSEGGGwn&gclid=CjwKCAjwq7fABhB2EiwAwk-YbMayJ6Tr9A9-qOH-YuqQkzHx4-bNPQQ9XuroZvoZDN-7aOFdIeHPvRoCKHYQAvD_BwE Don't know why that amazon link didn't work. Put this in an Amazon search bar "Screen and Storm Door Latch, Non-Keyed, Surface Mount, for Inswinging Doors, Aluminum" I can't find an actual image of this one but this seems like it would work and has a lock. Ok, based on photos, you just get a door that says "opens out and to the right" and when you mount it inside the porch when standing on the stairs it'll open in and to the left.
