All hat, no cattle…
Today was a bastard but it sure could have gone worse.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1746586753.jpg My wife and the neighbour were unable to pull this calf. I told her to call the vet and decided to head home to help. Unfortunately, my truck was at the dealer for a warranty repair that they couldn’t (wouldn’t) do so it has to go back. That’s another story. I had to take an uber to the dealer, collect the truck, and got home about 2 minutes after the vets arrived. It took 4 of us to pull this calf and a bunch of lube. Nobody was wearing cowboy boots (I had a dress shirt on and presentable jeans), or a cowboy hat. Does that mean we aren’t cowboys? Momma and the calf are doing fine and will go out with the herd tomorrow. |
Put a nsfw tag on that title. lol
|
That had to be rough on both momma and baby.
|
Nicely done!
|
I think Mama cow had to dislocate her hips, to give birth to that little moo cow! 😂
|
Holy moly…
I’m glad you saved mom and calf. |
I'm pretty sure my day is gonna be better than yours was UB ....
You rock! Here's to Elsie and Moo-Moo :) |
Nicely done and thank you. This thread has brought back some great memories.
|
If I was a cow and I saw that I’d become a nun.

I think we just PARF'd this thread :D |
Well done, unclebilly! Clothes can be replaced a lot cheaper than critters.

Good job on saving both the mama and calf.
One of my friends literally grew up on a dairy farm. His earliest memories were tending the cattle. Most every morning, he went to the barn to milk a cow for his milk for his breakfast. He saw and helped many calf deliveries, and mucked out a lot of crap from the barns. On a regular basis someone would ask if they could have some manure, and he always replied, all you can want, from the barn, not the fields. Now he is a "gentleman" rancher and raises longhorns, and horses after retiring from a job that was in computers. |

Right? Honestly the story has me wincing at the idea of burgers for dinner. Sweet animals really.

Wear the cowboy clothes (and boots) you'd wear for calving to the dealership. Hang around the lobby drinking free coffee and reading magazines until the work on your car is finished. I'll bet your ticket gets expedited!
|
Well done!
Does the phrase 'All hat, no cattle' mean something? Wannabe cowboy? |
How did you manage to get that to not happen at 0300?
I bet that was a tired cow |
Wondering; do you rent a bull or do you have your own?
Cowboy Hat or John Deere Cap? Its a big deal to some. BTW Hay is the first step of BS. First thing I learned from my Alfalfa farm buddies? Enjoy the next sunrise and check on the Momma & Calf. |

... or was. At least it's not a burger or a steak! Glad everyone came out OK. Not something that I want to deal with. |
