I went to the grocery store and parked as close as I could to the curb, and the two spaces next to me were empty.

I park VERY far away from the store. As far as possible! And rarely does anyone park next to me.

The only exception is if there is shade from any trees......that is the priority......over everything else!

That said.....what you portrayed doesn't surprise me given the number of knuckleheads they give out drivers licenses to! :rolleyes:

Maybe the BMW guy was joining the protective zone figuring you at least wouldn’t ding him either.

I used to park my pile of crap Geo Metro next to really nice cars, because I knew I wasn’t going to ding them and that gave them protection on one side; of course I’m sure it freaked them out when they came back to their car.

I park miles away , and get notes on the car I took up too much space!....(I try to park so no one can get next to me)
I just don't go near parking lots anymore.

When I had my 84 Targa I'd park far away from everyone else at Target or the mall. Came out one day to find a pick-up truck hit the headlight and fender, for fun I guess.

I'd expect someone trying to protect their car to do what the BMW did. He knows you're not going to ding him and there's plenty of room for you, anyway. He still has some risk on his passenger side, but he's minimized it. His risk is if you leave before him and some turd parks in your spot.

If I were the BMW person, I may have parked there (cart in the empty spot next to him), but I would have parked in the middle of my spot which would have made a fuller, more comfortable space between the 911 and the BMW. Even when I had my 911, I didn't park way out. I get folks that do, it's just not my thing.

I think the BMW was gauging his spot by the distance from you....which he did fairly well.
If you were centered in your spot...he likely would be parked in the middle of his also..imo.

I park my 911 and my El Camino like you did. In the corner, far out as possible. No door dings on either car after many decades of ownership.

However, the El Camino has had the tail gate dented in while at Lowe's and it had to be some large pickup that tagged me. I had it fixed, and it looks just like it should.

I parked the same way with my 914 that I had for 26 years. Every single fender was smashed into by idiot drivers. And I never even got the note saying everyone watching thinks I am give you my information, but tough luck. Every crunched fender was done in totally different parts of town, and some in broad daylight, while I was legally parked and not in the car.

I'd have done exactly what the BMV owner did. Still plenty of room and both your 911 and their car are in a safe zone for door dings. Now, there's nothing that can be done about the lazy moron who left a cart but at least the BMW acted as a buffer against that stupidity.

When I was 19 and drove a '63 Dodge pickup, my preferred spot would have been to mash that shopping cart up against the curb. :D

I try to park my cars out away from the mass of cars nearer to the shop doors. I did that once and have a picture (somewhere) of my 911 sitting in a lot out in the middle of nowhere all by itself - except for one car that pulled up and parked right next to it.

That would bug the crap out of me too.

People parking close is a problem with the MCS since the doors are so large. I hope the Cayman door is smaller than the MCS because I doubt they will be considerate.

The doors on my boxster seem quite large. They are a PITA in tight parking spots.

My Honda Fit and Civic both have doors that open to a right angle with the car.
Makes for lots of room for exiting the car. Also adds to the space that a fully open door needs.

You guys are really missing all the fun in this.

What you do is, turn the P-car around and park REALLY close to the BMW, so he can't get in.
Then, get out and just walk away and wait....

He’s between the lines, didn’t hit you, left space to open his door, but yet you all are still complaining. WTAF.

Idiots will do that on purpose just to mess with you...especially if you're driving a Porsche.
