				Time Suck!

I was noodling around on Amazon Prime for something to kill a few minutes while my computer is churning on a large aerial project.

"History in the Making" is a great series from Canada. Mostly American craftsmen and women building things like they were done "back in the day" using some neat very old machines. Sorta like How it's made, only all historic items and tools, made by a single craftsman or craftswoman. From old brooms to various knives. All in a different place, and almost always done with no modern machinery. A few of the craftsmen do indeed use an electric drill or a sander to avoid hours of doing something that makes no difference in the final product. For the most part, all done by hand. This is all very different locations, individuals from a lady making bamboo paper to restoring a WW2 Wildcat. Don't go there if you are busy, it is a total time suck. So far I have enjoyed every episode. Three stories per 30 minute episode. Making an English Long bow to the tall top hat like Lincoln wore, using some neat old time techniques. The good news for me is the aerial project is still churning after 6 hours, so back to the series!

THis sounds cool and exactly like the kind of thing that I'd enjoy. It sounds like I need to save it for when I'm retired. LOL!

Some of the very old machines the people are using are really cool. One guy restores old telephones. He has the machine to wrap the cloth threads around wires to make an authentic looking phone cable from the handset to the phone.

The machines are as cool as the products they make.

I watched one episode last night of a guy that makes wooden bowls. He uses no power equipment, and has a foot powered lathe to cut the final shape. He starts with a block of wood, and uses an axe to make it kinds round first.

There are some really cool 100+ year old machines used in virtually every episode. It is just an amazing series.
