the canned Sardine. anyone?

anyone eat them? they are my backup lunch/dinner food. microwave some leftover brown rice, some broccoli and peel back the lid of a tin of quality sardines.. some chili crisp oil or hot sauce and BOOM...dinner time.

prices are definitely going up. my faves are Portuguese in origin. the ones I can readily find are Nuri brand. my old boss is going there for vacation and he asked me if he could bring me something. I asked for a random "locals only" can of sardines. he side-eyed me, which made me think it aint happening. (but I am covering for him while he is gone and they are demolishing a bridge over a major freeway - hahaha)

google tells me they are super healthy. and a good source of all that is good for us.

there are some great Japanese versions smothered in miso.

I read something the other day about the health benefits of sardines. I like them ok, but anchovies on white bread are delicious. I hear both will put lead in your pencil.

I used to snack on a can occasionally many years ago. Pepper only.
Now I'm thinking I should go buy some.

I really like good canned sardines. One of my favorite quick dinners is spaghetti and sardines. Just cook the spaghetti, toss in some sardines, olive oil, garlic, a bit of anchovy paste, lemon juice, parsley, and some cheese, yum!

I prefer the tiny ones to the larger ones.

King Oscar sardines are good.

I like these even more than the King Oscar, MW Polar smoked, Brisling sardines in olive oil.

I'm going to do this. I think capers are calling to come off the bench on this one...and maybe olives.

That sounds like taking something tasty, and making it even tastier!

My question is: why did the sardines lose their jobs?
Did they not stay long enough in schools?

Your version is much more photogenic than the one I made Sunday with the exception of anchovy paste (great idea instead of heavily salted water), I used dried parsley, and no cheese with my fish please.

Canned sardines used to still have the guts in them I really liked them then. I prefer plain sardines on crackers. I was surprised to find out how large they were when I first ordered some in a restaurant in Portubal.

That's because I borrowed the photo off the Internet.

As for what to add, or take away, from the dish? That's the beauty of cooking. You're in charge. There is no right or wrong, except for liver, catfish, gizzards, and chicken feet. Those are always wrong. :P

^ those are the tastiest! They say canned sardines packed in olive oil are one of the healthiest things you can consume. When I plant my tomatoes I put 2 water packed sardines at the bottom

They sort out the larger ones for sale fresh/frozen. The small ones end up in a can.

King Oscar Kippered Herring for me.toasted bagel, cream cheese, and the Kippers on top go great with an easy-over egg for breakfast. Sardines in mustard on a saltine with a beer are OK on occasion.
