Brian Wilson, musical genius on a John Lennon scale

R.I.P. Brian Wilson. His early songs started an East Coast kid like me dreamin' about California...
I remember seeing The Beach Boys w/Brian back when they were still wearing those striped shirts on stage. Buffalo Springfield opened for them...

Face it, we're getting old, like really old. There's now a radio station here playing classic rap.

I was 14 in 1980. I was touring the East Coast with my family. The Beach Boys played a big show at the Washington Monument July 4th (I think!). I was so ticked off to have missed this show by two days.

Never saw them. Sure play their vinyl a bunch.

And Sly? Don't get me started. That guy was LEGEND. Played him the last few days on Pandora.

Definitely more to The Beach Boys than the pop music appearance on the surface.

Without Brian Wilson the Beach boys would have been just another pop band. Pet Sounds was a masterpiece

Get ready for it.
Ringo Star 84
Paul McCartney 82
Mick Jagger 81
Keith Richards 81
Jimmy Page 81
Eric Clapton age 80
Robert Plant 76
(and on and on)

It is like when the crooners of my parents ages began passing on.
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Perry Como, Tony Bennett

Not sure who the young generation has that is creating lasting music...

I mentioned I saw them in concert in early 1972. I was 16 and only heard their songs on the pop stations. However, there were two women who I thought were support singers that had to have been Cynthia Robinson (founding member) and Rose Stone (Sly's sister).

This analysis shows Brian Wilson's vocals were spot on.

This is a really good version of Do It Again. Brian Wilson was killing it here. Waddy Wachtel on Guitar and Jim Keltner on drums.

Apparently this if from a movie.

edit, Wachtel on guitar. Jeff Lynne was on another video I was interested in; the Mike Love HOF acceptance speech where he trashed Mick Jagger.

We have lost many others. That aspect and these two losses of Sly and Brian are not lost on me.

But for me, as far as an "end of an era" thing, it was the death of Glenn Fry in 2016.

He was only 67.

I saw The Beach Boys at the Omni, in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1976. I was 17 and had a great time.

That was the year we saw them in Daytona at Memorial Stadium. Honk opened.

I have photos somewhere.

We (the crew) went mostly to see Honk, due to their "Five Summer Stories" soundtrack legacy.

That's me w/the camera.....shooting w/35mm slide film.

BW impacted my life massively. He carl, Dennis, al, and Mike and the others taught me to sing harmony. I polished it up at church.
God only knows....
we'll miss you... for a little while.
