Proof reading is dead
Article on fair and balanced about electric planes.

Look. At. The. Pictures. Pitiful. Journalism is already dead. Now even cogent writing is gone the way of the dodo. |

Silly goose, that's not a propeller, it's a fan to keep the batteries cool.
LOL, no motors or propellers. Does that mean that it's using electromagnetic levitation or just shooting electrons out the back that are propelling the plane?

Does the job of Editor even exist anymore? Fact checker? Doesn't seem like it.
It's a sad and sorry fact of life that often when I read a "journalist's" take on a subject that I know fairly well, there'll be some part of the story that's just so wrong that I read the rest of the article looking for the flaws, rather than trying to get the information. (And I hate to be pedantic; and I also can't help myself, but proofread is usually one word!)

The author didn't state it had no propeller. The key word is the adjective.

Sports bloggers and unaffiliated team reporters are the worst. There is a guy that has a blog that reports on the Vegas Raiders and it's horrible. I will often comment on his stories asking him to proofread prior to hitting send so he does not look like such a buffoon.

I was reviewing a deliverable where the contractors wrote “core” for marine corps. It was the title page and was reviewed w/o comments from multiple levels that were 3 pay grades higher than me.

I agree proofreading is dead, but I didn’t see much in that story that a proofreader would flag. I see a lot of misspelling, double words, missing words, and confusing punctuation in news stories which is sloppy and inexcusable. On-screen text has made the concept of typography obsolete, and I think it has affected printed text. Nobody is bothered by rivers, widows, or orphans anymore.

Is your thread title intended to be ironic?

Correct. A good editor would have fixed that. “Lack of noise from engines and propellers.”

Prop does not know if it is driven by an electric or IC engine. Stupid to mention it at all

I thought of this thread when I came across this sentence in a news article this morning (and it wasn't even Fox "News"). They either didn't bother to have it proofread, or the proofreader is blind.
![]() Obviously, the correct words are "... will be decertified in 2024 ..."

A large % of on line content posing as journalism is AI generated. SI's famous "outing" is one example.

^ Ironically, that redlineproject story really needs a proofreader...
