Leno buys a Mustang

#12 off the line. I always wonder who gets 1-11.

It is a $700,000 dollar Mustang! For way way less, one can get a 911 GT2RS and go 14 seconds faster around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

It's super impressive, and I'd love to be able to drive one for a few weeks or a month, but I'd rather have one of the Porsche GTx cars (GT4, GT3, GT2).

I don't like the dash that's basically a 4' long computer screen. I don't mind some LED screen on the dash, but I don't want the whole dash to be an LED screen.

I want an analog tach. I'm OK with a digital speedo. I don't need an analog speedo if I have the digital speedo. I don't need a bunch of other digital gauges, but I do want a full complement of real gauges. Then I can have some other stuff on a supplemental screen.

Now we all have to wait for Corvette to go for a lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with their 1,200 HP Corvette.

As an American I am happy to see both Ford and Chevy with a top quality "world car" finally.

I think Leno made his point about it being an American car. And I'm sure he doesn't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks. The man can afford $700K to drive a car for one day if he chooses.

On the race side, Farley shows where this car has features not allowed on the Le Mans entries, DRS for example. Does anyone need this? Does Leno need this? It's all rhetorical.

What's to compare? Like a guy told me 60 years ago when I was exalting his Lambo on PCH (pre Miura) and asking what it was,

"It's a fkuing car." Got it.

T shirt at a Mustang event:

John Wick didn't kill all those people for a stolen Camaro.

Funny, but he also didn't do it for a stolen mustang.

Yep, that is when it comes down to the car, and a professional driver.

With a $400,000 starting MSRP , the GTD Isn't a world car, not to me anyway. There's no way in hell I'm buying a depreciating asset that costs more than my house.

Believe John Wicks car was a Mustang, a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang. But the t-shirt is cool regardless.

The part that resonated with me was that Ford kept the center section and added the cf sections either end. There was definitely a weight penalty there(as noted above). Did anyone else notice the car drop a couple of inches after they got in?
I wouldn't worry about depreciation. You aren't going to see the market flooded with these things.

For sure. Those lap records are all set by a true pro racer, and the car is checked by the factory, tire pressures tweaked to optimum, and it is a perfect day weather wise.

Still it is a car "as sold to the public" with the same tires, brakes and everything else.

Ferrari will not participate, and will void any warranty and excommunicate any owner that hires a pro to run for a record run in a new Ferrari. I can't wait for the Corvette 1,200 HP car to try at the ring. As an American, I hope they do great.

The Mustang did beat the time of the 918. So it ain't slow.
