my face to face with my doctor.
it went well. she almost hugged me.
she is absolutely stoked I changed my lifestyle. I am down 37 lbs and holding. my blood pressure is like I was in my teens. A1c is in the green. she wants to run some blood tests to see if she can take me off my gout meds. she suspects my inflammation is down now. we did high five. hahah.. I absolutely love my morning jogs now. I feel odd without my routine. I will be in Asia soon, and I have bought new running clothing I can wash in the sink and air dry. I look forward to running thru a quiet Tokyo downtown area. I told my travel bud he better pack his Hokas. our wives, we can meet later at the continental breakfast. ![]() I think I will ask if we can cut my gout meds in half. I am kinda. not comfy going cold turkey. gout hurts. worse pain I have ever felt. her quote. "exercise is medicine". ![]()

Cliff, that is great news. Shows that eating right is really the best thing we can do. Never had a bout with gout but I know some who have. They too were able to eat around that.
Alcohol did contribute in my mind, but I don't know that for a fact. Funny, I quit drinking a year and a half ago and I don't feel any better. But I don't miss it in the least and that alone is a better in my book. Eliminating sugar is next. Have to do something because I don't like how I don't feel like working 8 hours a day as I always have. So your energy level must be pretty awesome if you're running every morning. |

That’s awesome! Great example of just how important a good healthy diet and exercise is for us. If everybody was willing to make that sacrifice we would have a lot fewer sick people and a lot lower healthcare costs.

This is all great news Cliff. My ex-doc would tell me “movement is medicine.”
Be careful not to overdo it. When. Was in a similar situation- high bp and cholesterol - I went the healthy lifestyle route. I reasoned that if moderate exercise was good, immoderate exercise must be extra more gooder and started running marathons. That was a mistake Im still paying for.

Outstanding! Best news ever!
Congrats on making a change! I was up 15-20# over a year ago. I've lost 5-10#, and plan on keeping it up. Hopefully, I'll be right behind you!

I was on 3 bp meds, down to one at half the dosage. Off the gout med, uric acid down from 9 (above normal) to 6 (normal), lower than when I was on the med. My doc was very curious about how I lost the weight so fast.... she thought I got my hands on one of the weight loss drugs.

Rock on Vash! Simple stuff like healthy diet and exercise, alcohol in moderation, and regular good sleep are transformative. I do these things while knocking on 70 because I want to enjoy my time still on earth and stay away from the medical industrial complex. Stay the course brother!

Congratulations! I had the same primary care doc for 25+ years before I moved. He basically said, barring something unusual, if you moderate your meals, drinking, and DO NOT smoke, you can eat or dink whatever you want once a week. Keeping 'active' as in physical exercise and mental activities, is also a key. Works for me.

yesterday, coming back from the coast, I got sleepy. waking up at 3:00 am is tough.
the drive home, I stop at a local place for an americano. I get a meat hand pie since I am trembling from hunger. I get into my truck, pull back into traffic, take a sip of hot coffee...hmmm.. take a bite of of the hand-pie. WTF? it was an apple hand pie. there was no stopping it. I had crumbs on my shirt, licking my fingers, washed it down with hotasscoffee. quitting sugar is a B. I almost fell off the wagon by a mis-identified hand pie. hahahhah. dang that thing was tastings like magic.
