Excellent. Nicely done boiling the task down to principals, and making it easy. Steaming in the microwave. One for the vault.

^Funny about process and explanation. I was more intrigued by that than the wood bending. I knew I'd get too complicated in the response and was yearning for the K.I.S.S.

Here's the springback after several hours. The peanut canister is 4 inches across.

I think if under the gun, I'd use a microwavable canister, and then reinsert the wood wrapped around the canister back into the microwave to dry it out on the spot. This turned out okay though for an arch, especially if it got laminated with another paint stick.

DECIMATE THIS COMPETITION VASH!!!!!!

These shaker boxes are made by bending the side strips of wood that have been soaking in hot water for about 20 minutes. The strips are wrapped around a sized core for each standard size of box and left overnight to dry. The strip thicknesses vary by core size - so the smallest box has the thinnest strips. The size 0 box is about 1.5" x 3" and the size 5 box is about 5" x 8".

my fingers are gluey clumps. haha.

no power tools is proving to be a challenge. And my mental image of my design is a tad complicated.

turns out us Supervisors cannot compete. it is for the team building for the group. so I gathered up some extra wood and I am building what I call, the UNLIMITED CLASS.

wood is bent and feels like an archery bow..pure energy. my girders had to be strong to contain the outward forces of the arches...yeesh... I am on the precipice of fail!!

I don't think anyone mentioned this so...

You cannot really stretch wood fibers, you can only compress them. So a good way to bend is to add a thin strip of metal to the outer diameter. That strips stops the bending action from pulling the OD fibers apart, and only allows the inner fibers to compress.

Wet/steam/boil/heat etc, then compress the ID.

That's a good point.

just have to put the deck on. a superficial deck.

its ugly but strong(ish). I learned things, and will go back to the office to pass it to my team. they are way behind, but in this case it is a good thing. I have a wild suggestion for them from what I learned.

advantage. I built the rack to hold the bridges when we break them. so I not only have it, I have the exact dimensions of it. with a slight add: we can use that bracket to brace the bridge. I did it with mine, but there is a better way. transfer the load to the bracket!!! I will suggest they use the rack as a jig and wedge build/wedge their bridge into place. cheating? gray gray area. I sent a pic of the rack to all the teams.

tough with no power tools (table saw, band saw, routing tables). I was cutting wood with shears. and a hobby coping saw.

Here is my humble attempt to get the load to the bracket. Could be way better.

Damn! Nice job on Lenny. Love the little sign, now you should film videos of toy trucks that are <0' 3" crashing into the top of it.

Will there be a Squiggy?

different Lenny. actually, Lennie. misspelled poor Lennie.

the question: will there be a George. my staff is working on George. taking some of my lessons learned and putting them to use - hopefully.

tomorrow is the day of splinters and tears.

hopefully the exercise isn't an impeachment of our civil engineering degrees.

we did a dry run on the pulling apparatus. Which is a powered with the jack commandeered from a 90's Toyota corolla.

I've read that if it's unintentional and catastrophic that it's horribly painful!
