New Thermostat?
Google will cease app support of the first and second gen Nest thermostats in October 2025. My thermostat will still work but nothing that used the app will work, so no more scheduling etc.
Fk Google. I am looking for a different thermostat to replace it with. What do you all use?

Honeywell with a remote but no wifi. It might be capable but I'm not interested. Totally programable 24/7. I always buy HW.

Honeywell also here. It's programable, but I never use that.
No wifi...came with the furnace 5 years ago. No complaints.

I like my wifi Venstar. Easy to set up and reliable. I have one going over 10 years.

I just installed an Ecobee in my son's house. I think any modern stat with an app will be at risk of not being supported.

Aren’t wifi enabled thermostats able to be turned off by the gov during brown outs?
I use dumb thermostats. Turn it on when i get home. Adjust before i leave.

Nope! They sure aren't. Now, if you have a switch installed as part of a program that pays you for installing the stat, the power company can shut down your system during peak times.

Honeywell here, wi-fi connected. I like to be able to remotely check temp/humidity on vacation property when we are not there.

Apps are so fickle. All it takes is for an OS upgrade and an app developer who doesn’t upgrade their app and you’re out of luck.
I’m still old school on my thermostat- I think it still may be a mercury based system! It work fine for my needs. I suppose if I traveled frequently a remote or programmable unit would be nice. ![]()

For everyone saying "I'm old school", the only thing affected is remote control of the thermostat by wifi using the app. The thermostat is still fully functional and can be programmed at the thermostat. It's technically still "old school" just not as old school as a Honeywell round.
