Today's State safety inspection find .

It's not often that I actually find things that are truly " unsafe" Sure, I find some loose tie rod ends, here and there, worn out brakes, or maybe a tire showing cords that an owner was not aware of , but every once in a while , I get a whopper .
This tree branch punctured the metal shield , protecting the fuel tank, and was jammed into the tank very hard. It put a nice sized dent in the tank. How it didnt pierce the tank, i have no idea.
To make matters worse, it was jammed up super tight against the exhaust pipe, and muffler , and definitely getting hot enough to make one think .
I had to pound it out with a large whammer hammer .
I seriously doubt it would have ignited, but its noteworthy anyhow !!

That must have made a thud. You wonder about people sometimes.

I cracked the fuel tank on my diesel Rabbit with a piece of exhaust pipe I ran over. ( The car ahead swerved around it. I didn't have that option as a car was merging beside me.)
I didn't realize it was leaking until I got to the ferry terminal. When I reported it to the loadmaster, he told me it was no problem and had a crewman seal the crack by rubbing Ivory soap on it. He said they did it all the time for transport trucks. That fix lasted until a new tank arrived three weeks later.
Still, you gotta wonder what they were doing to impale their vehicle with a chunk of tree.

Wow, crazy!

I'm sure that you've seen some of the INSANE "customer states" videos.

Your particular story brought this to mind. OW! He's really got the gift of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. LOL

Love the customer states videos. They make a burning stick wedged into a gas tank look tame!
