Seat Upholstery

Tim,

Given your skill level on just about everything, upholstering Porsche seats will be child's play. The right tool and hardware is a Hog Ring Pliers and Hog Ring staples. The staples wrap around the embedded seat cover wire. Those in turn are attached ( via staples) to the seat frame. All are available on the internet. High quality seat covers and new foam cushion make all the difference.

Patience, strong hands and a good set of hog pliers will be the order of the day.

3rd cushion done.... The aft center bottom with multiple colors it ended up needing a new base also which I made from 1/2" pvc. This one took me about 8 hrs. Gotta get more efficient at this,... I now fully understand why it costs so much to have this kind of work done at an upholstery shop.

I'm sure the hours spent will be multiplied many times over by the pure enjoyment you're going to get when using your boat.

Nice work!

Superb!

I’ve seen more than a few first time, upholstery efforts and yours is in a class by itself. Well done.

Finally got one of the side bolsters sewn up. I had no idea it would be so difficult. Many pieces and a complex shap at the front. What makes it tough is the welting that has to be sewn along the top and side edges. Just painted the original foam covered plywood with mold killing paint. Ordered new plastic Xmas tree fasteners and about to try fitting this complex cover.
Fingers crossed...

I finally figured out what something Mr. Hancock and I have in common: We both have the same Craftsman stool

Nicely done, Tim!

Got the long port bolster stretched and stapled on. Not perfect as there is a slight loose spot in a corner but I don't think anyone will notice once it is re-installed in the boat. Probably have blown at least 12 hours in fussing with this piece over the past week versus the seats which are more like 6-8 hours a piece Gotta somehow get faster. Next up is the starboard bolster then back to "easier" seat back and corner seat backs.

Looks great Tim! That’s as much art as science, I don’t have the patience for such things.

The boat is now ruined with that loose spot.

I know leather tightens up with heat. Does vinyl? IDK anyone will notice but you. They will see the forest, not the trees.

I'm going to buy a light industrial sewing machine because of you. I have the old Singer everyone had and can sew a hem or two. I want to make my own indoor car cover. I found 2 large table cloths for 20 each which is less by the yard than any suitable fabric. Just have to cut them up and seam it.

I found basting tape which makes assembly a breeze.

Looks like the pattern was slightly off, a little too much material on both sides for the last inch or so of that seam.

Could be fixed but it isn't worth the trouble.

Looking great, really like the colors.

I'll be honest, I was thinking this might be the project where TH shows that he's just like the rest of us, at least sometimes. That was foolish thinking on my part.

I'm sure the answer is yes, but have you tried a handheld steamer on that buckled area? Or gentle application of heat with a heat gun?

I have both a steamer and a heat gun. I think the heat gun will help it but when I hold this piece in place on the boat, it looked just fine as it is. I really want this interior to look brand new when I am done so I am really trying hard to not F these seats up.
