Craigslist and Garage sale scores!

So my wife has been wanting a piano for some time and really, I would like to have one to tinker with occasionally myself. I found one on Craigslist that the lady did not know the brand of what year it was made. It looked good in the pictures, so I offered to trade her a solid state guitar amp that I never used for it and she accepted (I think she just wanted the piano out of the way). Went to look at it and did not see a name or any markings on it but it played good minus a couple of keys and appeared to be in good shape. Loaded it up, took it home and then took the cover off of it. Found the serial number and found out that it was a 1890 Kimball piano... It had been modified during WWII like a lot of the old pianos to have the mirrored front. Found out that musical shops had to do this to the old pianos since there were none being produced during this era and in order to have product to sell, this was the one option that they had to have pianos to sell....

Well, my wife was feeling bad because I gave up my amp to get her a piano, and she called me today from a garage sale and said that she had found a little Fender amp that she was going to get me for $25. I said that that was okay and she told me it was going to be one of my Christmas presents... I saw her pull up and watched her try to lug this bulky amp that had a black amp cover over it and ran outside to help her out. I grabbed it from her and it felt like it weighed about a hundred pounds! Got it inside and took the cover off and couldn't believe what she had purchased for $25. at a garage sale!!!

A 1969 Fender Super Reverb Silverface amp with the original foot pedal and cover!

This is my first tube amp, so will have to do some learning about it...

Holy balls, that's robbery! If that amp is original it's worth a few thousand dollars.

Yeah, Amp is original... will post a pic of the back and pedal here in a minute. It still has the squared magnet Fender speakers...

Here is the pedal and the back of amp.

Not sure if the pedal is original, shows to be made by Fusschweller / Shaller electronic out of Germany...

Here is the back of the amp

Okay, I got 2 questions.
1. How did your Wife score the deal of the century without someone else snapping it up before her.
2. How have you been and how's your hand these days?

Good to see you back Bill!

To the yard sale crowd, that's just an old speaker.

Not around here. It would be a rare feat to find something like that for $25. You can't even find cheap tube radios out here anymore.

Simple amp to work on. I'm guessing you could find some cold solder joints in that thing.

Buddy of mine has a 1964 Fender amp, I think it' a twin reverb but I'm not sure. Anyhow, that thing is worth about $3k. We were at a guitar show recently and he had dealers falling over each other to buy it from him.

"Deal of the Century" is an understatement.
I thought I did well when I scored a '67 Bassman head for about $125.

Good Lord....

I just had someone offer me 2K for my Deluxe Reverb!

Take it to a good amp guy before you play with it. Have it checked out. It's akin to starting a car that has been sitting for years.

That thing will be LOUD once sorted.

I was looking to get a smaller table for our kitchen and stumbled across a craigslist ad for a porcelain table for 30 bucks. I went to see it within the hour and bought it. It is in great shape and only had a couple vey small chips. It has 2 12" pull out sides to make it bigger. I saw one yesterday in an antiques mall that was smaller and very basic for 190 bucks.

My only score on Craigslist was a set of 4 new Porsche shop manuals for $50. I already had a set and I was broke so I flipped them on ebay for around $250.

That amp deal is incredible.

Wow. Now that is trading up. That is a desirable amp. I love those. Really loud for home use, but the cleans are awesome, they sound huge and they take pedals well. The only Silverface Fender amp from that era that is possibly any cooler is the bigger and heavier 4x12 Quad Reverb. Take it to a good amp guy and make sure it is ready to be played (filter caps in good shape, etc.).

If you guys are on Facebook look for a local trading post group.

Have a couple local to me. Great deals and none of the craigslist BS.

Ours do things like PPU, porch pick up. You say you want it, seller PMs you the address then sets the item out front. You stop by, slide cash under the mat and take your stuff.

Safer than craigslist since you need to request to join and the groups are moderated.

1. I sent her to the store so that she could pick up some items for dinner... My daughter noticed the garage sale sign after they left the grocery store and needing blankets for the dogs for the back porch this winter, they decided to stop by and look for blankets. The garage sale started at 8am and was scheduled to close down at 5pm. The amp set out in front in plain view with the cover off of it all day with no takers. My wife got there at about 4:50pm....

2. The hand isn't doing so well, last time I checked in, I had just had my first surgery. It had almost healed up when we got the pathology report back positive (they didn't get it all the first go round) and about a month later I had to go in for a second surgery. They took everything down to the fat layer and said they didn't need to do any pathology due to this method being 95% effective. I explained to the doctor that in my experience that natural selection puts me in the 5% group. She laughed and said that I had nothing to worry about. I also had a large cyst that had formed on my ankle removed which was originally an entrance hole from a microscopic surgery I had a few years back. and also a tumor removed off my back. So to say the least, I was in a little pain

The tumor appears to have came back on my hand, it is pea sized right now and am scheduled to go back in for a third cutting...
