After reading all this I feel like getting some really nice sourdough bread, toasting it, and savouring the olive oil on it. Olive oil should be subtle I feel.

Lots of Italian restaurants provide bread and olive oil with either cracked pepper or a variety of seasonings in the olive oil when you sit down. When the bread is really good, wow, that's awesome. It's so easy to be full before the food arrives because the bread and oil are so good.

We go through a lot of olive oil, the already mentioned Costco size we would finish inside 2 months. We discovered some local San Diego/Temecula brands that we have now been using and are great stuff.

I also like white bean garlic spread with a well of olive oil in the middle with some French bread.

Yep thats the stuff but like I said it is too expensive now.

We tasted a bunch at a local distributor and liked the atlas best. At the time it was like $6/liter. It is excellent and I'm glad they're getting recognized, but the price is a giant bummer.

If you like Partanna, you owe it to yourself (and the small producers of the world) to try:

https://zagarellooliveoil.com/

It is family owned and produced in Partanna and, of course, available on Amazon.
The Zagarello is a strong recomendation. Just did a taste test against my older Partanna. The Zag is peppery, grassy, fruity, all well balanced. The Partanna is closer to a dessert olive oil at this point, in contrast it was very sweet and fruity, mild. Panko bread crumbs were great for a fresh palette.

The Zag would have to be great with lamb lollipops and anything else that can stand up to it. I like it and look forward to using it. Thanks!

Oh id love to hear what you think. Hope it stands up. Funny i recently got to taste their fancy stuff at a local distributor who had an open bottle and while it was extremely fruity it was also rancid. Boy o boy is that no way to sell olive oil.

Maybe stay out of spain. Place will totally ruin you for olive oil. If you search or just find the right people there is so much that is great and its all different. So many styles.

There was an article on TV that said a huge percentage of olive oils are not what they claim to ne. Diluted with sunflower oil. Cheap stuff from dodgy countries imported to Italy and mixed in. Below is just a snip from google.

To test olive oil, perform a refrigerator test, a taste and smell test, and check the label for certifications and a harvest date. For the fridge test, refrigerate a small amount of oil overnight; real olive oil will thicken and may solidify due to its high fat content, while fake oil will remain liquid. A true extra virgin olive oil should have a fruity, peppery, or grassy aroma and taste, leaving a pleasant tingling sensation in the throat, whereas fake oils often taste dull, greasy, or waxy. Finally, scrutinize the label for signs of purity, such as a harvest date, official seals of approval, and the term "extra virgin," and avoid oils in transparent bottles.

We use a couple of these a year. This oil has a good light and fruity taste, $38.50.

This is the best branded olive oil ive ever had. Pressed from pitted olives. If you want to taste something great this is the stuff. Shockingly good.

In other countries that are heavily into olive oils; like Greece, or Italy. do they just call it "oil"?

Just tried to order but I have no idea what NIF is on their order form and it's required. I sent an email asking about it so I can place an order.

I looked too. I think its maybe a bajillion doll-hairs to have it sent to usa.

I brought back two bottles in the spring but foolishly gifted them away. Im going to try to bring some home next time im there. It was shockingly good even in a place where great olive iil is everywhere. Problem is i just want to guzzle it. Gets me way more excited than the spensive jamon.

I'll have to look it up but I just ordered and received a pair 65-68 911 coupe vent window glass from Rose Passion in France. I don't think shipping was bad and it was 2 day via FedEx. That said I think I ordered the day before the di minimus exemption was eliminated so who knows now.

I have some experience with group buys...with commitments, I could order 10 bottles (or whatever) so that shipping is spread out. Shipping in the U.S. is cheap so easy to send out.
