Did anyone unintentionally get signed up for Amazon Prime in the last 6 years?

I think I remember some member here talking about ordering something and then finding out that they'd been signed up, but didn't realize it.

If you had that happen between 2019 and 2025, then you may be able to get a refund that could be up to $51 due to a lawsuit and the FTC.

Roughly 35 million Amazon Prime subscribers are expected to be eligible for up to $51 from a court settlement between the global delivery giant and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

Amazon has reached a $2.5 billion deal with the FTC as the result of a lawsuit alleging the company swindled consumers into Prime memberships they didn’t want and made it difficult for them to cancel. As part of the settlement, Amazon must set aside $1.5 billion for customer refunds, pay a penalty of $1 billion and make a series of changes to its subscription system to terminate what the FTC deems “unlawful practices.”

READ OUR LATEST: Changes are coming to Amazon Prime’s free shipping benefits. Here’s what to know.

To qualify for the refund, Amazon Prime members must have had memberships between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. If you think you qualify, here’s what you need to know:
How can I get a refund?

The refund process will be split into two phases — an automatic payout for some subscribers and a claims process for others, according to the settlement order. Each refund can reach up to $51 in either phase.

The first phase will be automatic payouts for subscribers who used no more than three Prime benefits during any 12-month period of their membership. The settlement defined a Prime benefit as any good or service Amazon Prime members received because of their subscription.

Those subscribers are set to receive the amount of membership fees they paid, though no more than $51. Amazon will need to pay those refunds within 90 days.

Within 30 days past the end of the automatic payout period, Amazon will send a claims form to the rest of Prime members eligible for a refund — those who used no more than 10 Prime benefits during a 12-month period of their subscription. They will be able to indicate whether they subscribed unintentionally, tried to cancel unsuccessfully or both.

These members will have up to 180 days after receiving their claims form to submit them to Amazon via email, First-Class postage prepaid mail or on the settlement website. Amazon will have 30 days to review and decide whether to pay any claims of up to $51.
