I'm a VW bug fan. I have a '65 now. It's probably my 15th or 16th VW. I'm not a fan of the current customization fad of lowering and narrowing that makes them almost undrivable. I don't even like the disc brake conversions. Most of them are very poorly engineered.
Give me a stockish Käfer any day.

This is my '65. It's been converted to 12 volts, has a single port 1500, and 5 1/2" Porsche wheels and I can drive it anywhere - even over speed bumps and cigarette butts.

Now that is a proper bug!!! Very cool, the wheels look fantastic and the stance is spot on!!!

I appreciate customs as much as the next guy, in any automotive form, but my tastes are much simpler when it comes to the VW bug. Patrick's is close to what I'd like if I were in the market for a toy. 540964's looks to be the more flamboyant version of Pat's 65. I like 'em both.

Some nice cars in the video - with all the accessories you never had. Give me something factory stock, though.

Has fake patina jumped the shark? It was kinda cool when someone pulled an old, faded splittie out of a barn, maybe a few spots of rust and a mis-matched fender and left it as-is. When you're creating the aging process it tends to get overdone and doesn't feel genuine.

My parents bought this bug around '90 and took it to Rota, Spain for a few years. They took it back to the states, but I don't think it got used much in the panhandle of FL. It eventually went to my uncle. I assume he ended up selling it. Most of the southeast US is just too hot and humid for a bug to be comfortable for most adults.

I'm pretty sure it was a '73 super beetle.

The '65 I've posted a pic of here a couple of times is still one of my all time favorites. Wish I still had it.

I'm with you on this. I would like to find a '69-72 completely stock, mint of course, bug. I had a '68 in high school and I miss that thing.

Long story short - or short story long:

My aunt had a beautiful '70 bug. Whenever my family visited, I would see it in the garage with a cover on it. When I saw my aunt a year ago, I asked her if she still had the bug and she said "ohh yes. I love that car but I don't drive anymore (she's 88).

One year later (two months ago), my uncle called me and said that they are giving me the bug. he said that they never drive it and they want it to go to someone that would appreciate it. I couldn't believe it. He said I would have to come and pick it up in Modesto. I asked if it would make it to Fresno and he said "hell yes, it only has 40k miles on it".

I was in shock. I'm getting a mint condition, 1970 bug with only 40k miles on it!!!

The next morning I woke up wondering if I had dreamed the whole thing when I got a text from my uncle with a photo. IT WAS NOT THE SAME CAR He sent a photo of a 2004 convertible bug. Apparently, they traded in the old '70 bug in 2004 and got a new one.

I had to act happy because it is a gift. It's at my house with a cover on it. I drove it once.

The end.
