Where the HECK have you been?
How many countries have you visited (actually left the airport, flight connections don’t count)?
How many states have you visited (actually left the airport)? If you’ve been to Canada, how many provinces have you visited (actually left the airport)? |
I will start.
16 countries (that I can recall). 25 or 26 states. 6 provinces and 2 territories. |
Countries? US, Canada, Bahamas
States? Most of CONUS plus Alaska. Missing a bit of the Western US (Idaho, Wyoming, Montana) and the SW (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas). Have driven thru all of the rest. |
For about 14 years, my wife and I were able to travel. We made 5 trips to the UK spending a total of just over 7 weeks. Our last trip had us in the south of France for two weeks and there were a few days in Iceland. We have done the drive to Southern Ontario and a few drives through the Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver Island. In all, three countries and seven provinces.

Not as many as I would like... Europe is on my bucket list.
4 countries including the USA my home country Mexico Canada Honduras 25 states including Ohio my home state Michigan Pennsylvania Delaware New York Vermont West Virginia Indiana Illinois Wisconsin Kentucky Tennessee North Carolina South Carolina Georgia Missouri Alabama Texas Florida Colorado Nevada Arizona Idaho Wyoming Utah |
8 countries not including the US. Japan, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, and Sweden multiple times. 31 states.
|
dang.
vietnam cambodia Malaysia Taiwan Japan germany italy greece Mexico canada peru Brazil States..gah..lots. I'll capture the rest when I retire. |
More than 15 countries, maybe close to 20, off the top of my head. Would have to sit down with a map to define it. Lived in 3.
More than 35 states. Would have to sit down with a map... Lived in 3. Two Canadian provinces, Ontario and Quebec. |
30 countries, lived in two.
All 50 States, lived in 6. All Canadian Provinces except PEI, which I want to visit. |
5 in Europe
Mexico and Guatamala Canada from Quebec (city) to Jasper, Alberta IN A 356 Porsche All the 48 contiguous US states IN A 356 Porsche |
So far...
35 countries 46 States 3 Canadian Provinces (Alberta, BC, Ontario) 6 continents 4 oceans (Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern) My impression is that the world and it's people are pretty amazing. |
I'm a lightweight.
Japan, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mexico, Brazil, Scotland < edit > I almost forgot Gibraltar. I guess you could call that "England"? < /edit > and 30 states if you include Wash DC. (I think I may have missed a couple, but not sure) And that's excluding places that I've landed, but not left the airport which would probably add a few countries and several states. 5 of the continents (only missing Antarctica). Only the Atlantic and Pacific, but both "sides" of each (Cali & Japan for the Pacific, several states, Scotland & Spain for the Atlantic). |
Italy
Germany Czech Republic Austria France Belgium Poland Ireland England Switzerland Mexico Thanks to Uncle Sugar: Iraq Somalia which I highly recommend during the spring Egypt Kenya Does Canada count? I would say Gander Newfoundland but didn't leave airport. BTW: they are 30 minutes time zone ahead of east coast USA. One of a few places like that. 33 states (I think) During my Officer time in the Army (15 years) moved 9 times. Two were self inflicted moves between houses at same location within a two year span. My 7 years enlisted I only lived in 3 places. |
All western states west of Kansas including Alaska. All of Canada except for Manitoba, Quebec, New Foundland Labrador, Northwest Terr and north. Delaware, Penn, Maryland, DC(I know, I know), Virginia, NY, NJ, Conn, and of course Mexico (walked across a bunch of times during those college years).
France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands. Balgium, Spain, Denmark China, Japan (only couple days), Hong Kong, Bali |
|
Should have joined the Navy... 26 states, Mexico and Canada.
|
Every state except for Hawaii.
Canada, just Quebec and Ontario on a regular basis England a few times France a few times Germany Greece New Zealand India a few times China Not as much travel as I would like. If I could get a special lobotomy to tone down the car addiction, I could double+ the country list. And would really like to. |
15 countries
50 states over and over and over forever 3 provinces |

After my first tour in San Diego, I had over a month of basket leave and didn't need, per my PCS orders, to hurry to NAS Patuxent River so I did a tight sinusoidal wave across the country in my '68 912. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761244679.jpg It was April so I wasn't exactly bucking rivets at the steel plant...easy day. I think I stayed in 20 States that trip. The Oceans angle is interesting... |
All of Great Britain (more than a dozen times)
France Spain Puerto Rico Dominican Republic Texas :p All of the west Coast states All of the East Coast states Maine to Florida Ohio Illinois Indiana Montana Wyoming Colorado Tennessee Kentucky The eastern most provinces of Canada (been to F1 in Montreal a couple of times) |

As a teenager I set off on foot from San Diego to San Francisco and then via Interstate 80 to NYC. And while I was in the neighbourhood I went to Mexico and Canada.
Since then from my home in New Zealand I've been to Australia (about 40 or 50 times) Singapore Rarotonga Fiji Samoa Vanuatu New Calidonia Zimbabwe Zambia South Africa England Scotland Belgium Holland Germany France Spain Italy Greece Switzerland Hong Kong Thailand. My favourite place is Rarotonga. |

Is that it? |
^^^ for now. Yes.
What is funny? There are lots of domestic places I have not been to / seen. Grand Canyon comes to mind. Didn't get to Yellowstone until a few years back. (It is AWESOME!) I really want to go to S. America, never been there. I also want to ride a dirtbike across Mongolia. Anyone interested in that one? |
I've been in a lot of states but not long enough in many to tell you much. Foreign countries I visited are Canada and Mexico ( MX, barely across the border before I'd seen enough). I don't have a passport so this was a long time ago.
Canada I would visit again except maybe not right now unless I had a good reason. Beautiful country and they should be proud. IDT I'd go to Mexico if I was given an all expenses paid trip. The nice thing about living in CA is that this state offers just about anything you can find worldwide w/o going into extremes. I mean we don't have a South Pole, OK? But darn near everything else AFA terrain goes. Culture, food, language, we have quite the variety but I wouldn't pretend I could go and emulate the coasts of Italy, Greece or France. Even England for that matter. I guess I'll have to do without. Except I'm hardly without in California. If and when I get done here, I'll look beyond. |
We travelled for the magazines a LOT, mostly in a pickup truck. Whether it was a show or a photoshoot, as soon as we were finished we had to hot foot it back to the office to get the next issue out.
Vicki and I joke that we've been everywhere and not seen anything. "Look! There's Mt Rushmore! Let's wave as we speed past." We did usually take time to have lunch at a local place and try the local potato chips and beers while we were at our destinations. Once we were on the road though, it was all business. When we stopped for the night, we'd hit a Burger King for cheeseburgers and a drive-through for a six-pack. When we got to our rooms, we'd each take a cheeseburger and 3 beers and head to our rooms. (This was before we were married) |
Well I've never been to Spain,
But I kinda like the music.... I am a homebody compared to most .... so I've been right chere ... not even to the Island of The Band ... yet :)! |

I was thinking about where I lived during my military career (22 years) England Ohio Savannah Georgia Germany Clarksville TN (Fort Campbell) Watertown NY (20 miles from Canada) Charlottesville VA (1 year) Oahu Hawaii El Paso DC area Favs: Watertown NY and El Paso. And I went kicking and screaming to both but loved them. Hawaii is nice but I had crap bosses and after a while the island gets a little small. Germany was great too but that goes w/o saying. |
Korea, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Australia, East Timor, Greece, England, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Guam...
Only states i haven't been to are Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Alaska |

If you thought you were a lightweight, look at my list…
Canada and France. And both were this year. I’d have to look at a map, but I’ve been up and down the East Coast and Ms Rocket and I did a 7000 mile trip all around the US. Quote:

When I was a young teen I remember talking to some people who had done a Contiki around Europe. I asked if they went to Germany. They thought about it for a moment then the girl looked at the guy and said "Yeah, that was the one with the big green road signs."
So I guess there is a difference between driving through a place and having been to the beach, hit the town, etc. |
