Pick some Mustang wheels
Debating a wheel swap on the Mustang. It's a V6, so the wheels are only 7x17 with 215/60/17 tires on it. They look kind of skinny.
Stock. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762894263.jpg 5 spoke wheels. They come in 17" and 18" sizes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762894263.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762894263.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762894263.jpg I was set on going with the 5 spokes until I saw these. They come in silver and graphite. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762894263.jpg |
Don’t get wheels that are too intricate…too hard to clean. My2¢
|
I like the more blocky five spoke wheels on that body style Mustang. The thin multispoke ones don’t fit the blocky styling of the Mustang.

They all look fine. I'd say go with what you like and/or whatever's available for a good deal, like if you find some takeoffs. Don't put too much weight on what we think.
|
If you're gonna do it....
|
I like the American Racing type you show, just not that one. Is there a better version?
(I agree with Carlton. Randy's are better...) |
I'm sure you're aware that the lower the profile of tire (like in Randy P's photo), the more you're going to feel every bump and pothole in the road more.
|
I would think a lot about the tire profile, taking into consideration what type of roads you drive on.
|
I'd want to avoid making it look like something it isn't.

I really don't want to go any larger than 18" wheels with 50 series tires. The main reason I got this car is for a circular, 4000 mile road trip in the spring. I'm hoping we can take at least 16 days, but I'm limited by what vacation time my wife can get. Most of the trip will likely be on interstates.
These are the wheels on the 2008 Bullitt. 18" I can't find a pic of them on a silver car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1762904735.jpg They're pretty rare in that color scheme, but I could paint a set if I found them for a good price. Quote:

18X8.5 with 6.82" (50mm) backspacing. 5 lug, 4 1/2" bolt circle. Good luck finding a set, NLA thru Ford parts. But you might get lucky placing "wanted" on mustang sites. Also, American Racing makes a wheel that's close..Wheels for less sold (still sells?) 'em...#VNCL20589500 according to notes I took some years back. Yep, still there...9 1/2 wide, you custom order the offset & backspace...only $750 each. (edit) FWIW, the spoke color is called argent gray.. |
I think the 18” look “right” on that body Mustang. Any bigger is too much, I don’t think they match the car.
|
These. It’s my favorite wheel pattern and I install them on every car/truck I have. Except the 911.

Not these...they aren't strong enough. :D

I know there's a few more days to vote, but the leading option right now is leave the stock wheels. The car does have Eibach springs and swaybars, and SR Performance shocks, at least in the rear. Not sure what the front struts are. I'm guessing it also had different wheels, and when it got wrecked the owner swapped back the stock wheels before signing it over to insurance. The Bullitt wheels might be NLA, but the same wheel came in two other versions, and I've seen a few of the other versions on FBM or Car-Part. I'll just have to keep watching until a set nearby shows up. There's a set of 17's in silver with tires on FBM for $300, but they're in Kenosha, the other side of the state. There's a set of 18's in Waupun, but someone spray painted them black, and paying for a strip and a repaint makes them expensive. FWIW I'm going to buy a 5th wheel and tire for our trip. If I run into an issue, I don't want to be driving on a temp spare for any amount of time. There's a few 500+ mile days in my schedule. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763088813.jpg |
Ford's argument for no spare in the '08 Bullitt was it wouldn't fit in the well, this the can of goo ^ air pump. But a full sized stock wheel & tire does fit...deflated. So, you'd still need an air pump...
