Well, here’s a house bug you don’t see very often

Found this little guy in the bathroom this morning. He was about 1.5” long and his tail broke off when I picked him up. First time I’ve seen one in the house.

It was 30° this morning, so he must’ve come in to get warm

Now, I’m wondering where his parents are!

Those things are everywhere around here, get in all the time. The tiny ones are almost tranclucent so maybe a different species.

Yes, common house Gecko. They are nearly clear when young. I have found one in a bathroom and a few others outside near a side door and front door.

Yep...pretty common here also (western SC). And harmless...actually cute little buggers.

We get them infrequently, house Geckos from Hobie's description. Usually, my wife sees them high on a wall or any other inconvenient location. My task is to somehow capture it and release it outside. They are shifty buggers, my capture rate is low. Our cats are useless in these endeavors.

We don't have geckos, we have skinks. The Blue tail skinks

Usually just the juveniles get in the house. I have to grab them ASAP of our male dachshund will kill them. I just take them out to the garden and release them.

We only see them in the spring. They are great at hiding.

We had skinks in the house in Hawaii. They were noisy. They had a squeaking noise. They ate bugs which was nice, but they were impossible to catch or keep out of the house.

We have those around also, never had one get in the house though, thankfully. We also have common green lizards. I hope your pup doesn't eat one, I think they could make em sick.

He just kills them and leaves the corpse. In his mind, the back yard is his to protect from any and all other animals and most insects. He loves cicadas as a nice snack. He has killed a squirrel, bunny, and several of the tiny snakes, and numerous mice. I like his mousing ability, and he is my early warning system that mice are in the yard.

He has finally learned toads taste really bad, so he will bark at them and poke them with his nose and paws.

He has kept our yard and the entire neighborhood free of elephants, buffalo, lions and bears. His work is never done!

I didn’t know they were so common in houses. Usually, I see flies, spiders, and every blue moon, a Palmetto bug*

I told Ms Rocket about him, and she said to burn the house down. She is definitely afraid of lizards. I once chased her with a small stick cupped in the palms of my hand and she about had a heart attack.😂

*AKA German cockroach. Eww!

Mediterranean House Gecko, I believe.

Since the mom lays eggs, I suspect the parents are out partying.

Geckos, at least, these, are nocturnal, so I would expect to you be able to find them on the outside of the house at night.

They aren't native, but I also believe they aren't normally considered "invasive" since they usually don't compete (or out-compete) native species, at least, I believe that's the case from Florida to Texas. Other places could be different.

They are great to have around. They eat bugs that we'd probably not want around, and if you need new insurance, he's got a cousin in the biz...

We have them here too, but I don't see them much. When I was a teen in the panhandle of FL, they were there too.

What I'm far more likely to see here (besides green anoles) are little brown skinks

His second favorite snack! 1st is a cicada, and third is the dog biscuit. The mice require hunting and capture.
