TV Prices and Sizes

Was in my local Walmart this am and walked thru the tv section and was surprised at a couple things.

First the prices. I'm looking at 65" sets and they had two different models for $298 each. Both were UHD 4K made by Roku and Onn. I don't know much about either one but surprised how low they are. The Samsungs and Vizio's were about $100 more for a 65"

Second the size. The two above and a few others that were in the aisle on pallets were the normal sizing. But other than those, almost all the newer models were 50" 60" 70" or 80" I wonder why that is happening. My glass tv shelf holds a 65" perfect, but anything larger will not fit.
It's looking like I will have to downsize to a 60" for a replacement.

One of the good things in life is TV and computer prices always trending down. Otherwise, I'd be watching a $20,000 TV.

I bought a 25" Trinitron in about '88 or so, thinking it would be the last tv I ever needed.

Sony quality, best picture, 'huge' screen. Life was good.

And heavy! A 65" flat screen today is about a quarter the weight.

Well, my 65" plasma that won't die is at least the same weight as the trinitron, probably.

I'll bet I could save the cost in electricity the first year if I bought a 65" lcd

Top I've paid was $3200 for a 30" Tube RCA.

I like roku, just bought a 60" Phillips for $279 at Sam's club.

^^^ I'd be ok trying a Roku, but theirs are not Alexa enabled, I think.

My Vizio will search out and show a movie or channel by just saying the name. Before they enabled it, I had to use the search screen with a cursor on the keyboard screen....I hated that.

I got this LG a few months ago and a Sonos sound bar and I hope it'll keep me out of trouble for 10 years or until the price comes down to $299 for a better TV. Best Buy also has 0% interest for 3 years, making it less of a shock. They say you spend 1/3rd of your live in bed, so get a good mattress. I spend the other 2/3rds watching TV, so...

Roku are heavily ad laden if that matters to you.

Man, I feel like I'm still watching a CRT. We still have the first Sony flat that we bought. It is heavy and not that slim, I'd say almost 6" thick at the widest part. And it puts out heat like an older set.

I bet if I replace it the new one will last a year or 2, not 20.

I bet more like 7-12 years and I suspect it might depend on brand. LG was recommended to me because they make most of the OLED screens on the market. I bet you'd be blown away by what you could get for under $500.

Current VIZEO will last a long time let alone SONY.

My first SONY flat screen (46"?)is upstairs right next to it's $400 wall swivel/tilt mount that looks like a piece of medical equipment.

Funny this should come up now.
We're in the process of replacing both of our Sony Bravia's. Mine a 52", my wife's a 46".

I will admit to being spoiled by my old set as it had a 240hz refresh rate and was a TOL back in 2009.
I noticed motion blur when looking at my son's new set that he recently upgraded to last time I was down to his house. Finding a replacement that satisfied me and my wife price wise wasn't easy.

I had a Bravia 7 MiniLED QLED 65" delivered last week, along with a new receiver since mine wouldn't pass 4k video thru it. I'm totally stoked on the picture I'm looking at now.

Today we're waiting for my wife's set to be delivered later this afternoon. I got her a 55" of the same make and model as my 65". I hope she likes it as much as I do mine.

My old set was way hotter running than this new one is. I think my heating bill will go up as it doesn't warm the living room up nearly as much now.
My wife is always complaining about being too hot in the family room so I'm not worried about her's not being as hot as the old one.

I remember our old old Sony 'cube' set. I think it was only a 32" Trinitron but it weighed close to 200 lbs easy. It went kaput when we had our glass doors replaced and all the dust from the stucco work got blown into it. Super windy that day of course, as well as hot, what did I expect in August?

I bought Sony again because of how well ours have performed over the last 18 years. My daughter had the Geek Squad come in and dial my old set in. I've been able to dial in my new one just fine so far.

Hmm...I didn't know that.
I only see ads on my Vizio when watching Prime, so that would be a concern.

The reason I'm looking is because my Vizio has developed a slight cloudy section in the lower corner of the screen. Other viewers tell me that they can't even notice it.
I can and it will most likely get worse. I checked on the AVS Forum and it's a problem with my gen of Vizio size screen.

The price of TVs has come down. I suspect part of the reason is that most TVs these days phone home and then play ads for things, so the cost is subsidized by the ads.
