My understanding is that in the National Archive, the Declaration of Independence and other documents have security in place so if there is an issue, they drop down into secure vaults under the building.

Electric vehicles need something similar. Got an electric vehicle? It should have a button like an eject button that drops the battery out into a huge hole in the ground full of water.

After clicking on that link I feel the need to take a hot shower.
Never did make it to a story about a car fire.

I'm surprised they could even put the fire out. (couldn't open the link)

Crappy reporting. They didn’t establish that the battery was a lithium battery or that the battery was involved in the fire. From the photo it looks like the battery is in the front and the fire was in the rear. It’s not like there’s never been an electrical fire in a Porsche before.

while i certainly don't wish harm, financial or otherwise, on the owner i can't help but feel this was an appropriate result for such an abomination.

I saw that a couple days ago, and noticed that there was a floor jack and what looked like a home built wooden ramp. I don’t know if the homeowner was using them, when the car burst into flames or what.

Well at least EVs are as good at burning as ICE. I tried to find this car on BaT but couldn’t.
