Netflix to Buy Warner Bros. and HBO Max in $82.7 Billion Deal

Will this lead to better/more movies for Netflix?
It's a huge amount of money.

That is a lot of money. We have HBO on our cable channels. That gets me Max for streaming for "free" as we pay for it on our cable bill. We don't have Netflix as we have enough to watch as is.

I will have to get an Apple TV account next year to watch F1.

I had a Netflix account back in the olden days when they mailed a DVD to me, and I had to mail it back. We tried the on-line version several years ago, and it was nothing much good to watch. Lots of 3rd and 4th rate movies. I guess they are upping their game.

Netflix winning the 'Streaming War'

Among streaming services, Netflix reigns supreme. Here are the top streaming services, according to Pew Research:

Netflix (72% of adults watch programming on the service)

Amazon Prime Video (67%)

Hulu (52%)

Disney+ (48%)

Paramount+ (44%)

Peacock (41%)

HBO Max (41%)

Apple TV+ (25%)

With the prospective merger of Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, analysts say, Netflix is looking even more like the winner of the streaming wars.

And to think Blockbuster could have bought Netflix for $50 million and passed.

WB has been for sale for awhile. It was just a matter of who and when it would be sold. A lot of history on that lot.

I predict Netflix will give you a small discount on the total if you bundle it with HBO - for the first month.

That’s nothing. When Terry Semel was the head of Yahoo in the early 2000s, he passed on buying Google for $500M and Facebook for $1B. On one of them, (can’t remember which one), he wanted to sleep on it and the deal was rescinded the next morning.

That’s life. He wound up in the Motion Picture home in the valley with extreme dementia a few years later. Live for today…you never know what is coming down the pike.

It's hard to fathom how much $82.7 billion is. Would be fun to write and sign the check.
