Anyone help me with a value on a set of vintage SSI's?

Folks,

Not trying to sell them here but am trying to get rid of some parts that have been sitting around the garage for years now.

I have a set of Vintage SSI stainless steel heat exchanger's that I have owned for at least 25 years. Have used them on a 3.0, 3.2, & 3.6 L engine and they worked fine. Took them off when I upgraded (and backdated) my 911 and went with a B&B system. Also have a vintage stainless Steel Dansk "banana" muffler that went with the SSI's.

Can someone please give me a ballpark value for these? I have a local person who is a great mechanic and has worked on my 911 in the past who has offered me $750 for everything and from my last dealings with SSI's I thought that this was a bit low.

Would appreciate comments & suggestions because I have not messed with parts like this for a while. If he does not take them will probably put them up on the PP Parts for sale but am really not excited about shipping something this size. Thanks!!

I think some of the value is your local market . I would say 750.00 is low if they are in good shape . I would say 1000.00 to 1200.00 is a fair price .

Joe, you don't give much detail. Any answer is going to be rather subjective. You have used the items for a long time and no mention of condition. I would be leery until I could really inspect.

That having been said, the offer does sound weak but 2 things come to mind: your mechanic has to resell these and he's in business. (2) he may know the real condition of the insides of your system.

I would do a better job of describing what you have with pics and possibly a borescope of some of the interiors. Possibly reach out to some of our members like Byron that always has his finger on the pulse.

Joe, without pics it’s hard to say but they are highly coveted. $2k would not be unreasonable if they were in excellent condition

I have a new never used pair that I wouldn’t let for for $3k

The new Dansk “SSI’s” are not made to the same quality level.

You have to use the “post reply” button, not “post quick reply.” When you do that, look for the “click here to upload photos” button below the text window.

Thanks Otter!!

Yes they are dusty & dirty but they are also stainless Steel which usually does not rust, especially in Arizona with its 10% humidity.

I use "Go Advanced" under the comment text field. Then "Click here to upload photos" Then choose one or more pics from your various folders.

Then choose upload.

Then arrange them to have one space between them

Then upload post.

Joe is that a Monty muffler by any chance? Those are also very valuable.

I would 0000 steel wool everything with an aggressive cleaner to get them ready for sale.

Looks like they are regular flange thickness - not thick for the 911 SC use?

These are the thick flange versions and have been used on 3.0, 3.2, and 3.6 engines

Yeah that's a Dansk, probably worth $500.

Christmas time is a very bad time for selling Porsche parts. Cars are ok because of bonuses but parts don't pick up again until Feb March, April for those who spent too much on Christmas.

I would clean everything up. Package deal of $2200, take $2K if so inclined. $500 for muffler and $1800 for exchangers.

Shipping isn't bad. Home Depot has heavy duty boxes that the exchangers should fit in. Small bike box cut down for the muffler would work for that.
