Getting a Porsche key cut

The blank is about 20 times more pricey than any I ever bought.

Go to the hardware store, locksmith or will it even matter?

Any decent locksmith can cut the key . The difficult part ( $$$ ) is if you want another key fob programmed to the car .

FWIW, I worked in a hardware store that had a key-cutting machine and every employee was required to know how to use it.

I'd go to a locksmith.

I had an 85 key blank cut at a local hardware store. Worked just fine.

What does a good Indy recommend? Costco usually has a good vendor available that can even do programming. Maybe not on an’85 Porsche, though.

The locksmith will have the machine that can cut that particular alloy, at least that's what the hardware store guy told me.

The only mistake I made was I asked the locksmith to copy a worn down key, so my new one also looks worn down.

Most likely where ever you go, they will tell you there is a high risk of it breaking and they will not assume responsibility. Been down this road a few times and every time nothing has gone wrong. They just like to say that.

I just went to a key cutting place. Looks terrible, but okay for back up.

I bought a couple of thin blanks from our host and had a local locksmith cut them to my key. Now I have two Porsche head keys and two flat keys.

BTDT with a few keys .... a good locksmith can/will do the keys and "program" fobs, etc. but they will not guarantee it. At a fraction of what a Stealership will charge ... that's what I do.

No issues.
