911 is all GW's Fault?
Pleze....gimme a break....If GW is guilty of letting 911 happen, Bill Clinton commited the act...For years the CIA and FBI were making warnings about AL Qaeda, it was obvious for anybody to see that something was going to be tried AGAIN sooner or later. For years Clinton ignored Al Oaeda, and then pussy footed around with them by shooting a few Cruise Missles in their direction only when he absolutely had to..why Public Opinion Polls showed it was the popular thing to do, everybody was riding a Good Times High...."The End of History" and all that rot. It was only at the end of his term in office that they got around to saying something substantial had to be done with Al Queda, and they decided for better or worse to let the Bush Administration take action rather than implement a plan that might become messy for an incoming administration. The Bush team was briefed by the Clinton Administration on AL Queda, but do to the number of decisions and details it takes to get an administration off the ground, the information fell through the cracks and was put on the back burner.
Quite understandably the Bush administration was preoccupied with other things in the first few months of the administration...like getting the cabinet appointees OK'ed by the Senate and all the other administration people in place. Getting the team to function smoothly as a team and up to speed. If you know our government and how it works 9 months isn't long... Now let's deal with the interface between the administration and the Civil Service end of the government which the CIA and FBI are part of. Inept isn't the correct way to describe the American Governmental Bureaucracy...a better way to describe it is that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing...Our governmental Bureaucracy is so large and unwieldly it's like trying to change the course of the Titanic...if you push the rudder hard over it takes two miles and so many minutes for a change in course to be noticable....now make that years in the case of our government. So there it is a New Administration that was preoccupied with getting itself up and running, a Governmental Bureaucracy where the threat of Al Queda wasn't a top priority due to the stance of the prior administration, and the fact that the Bureaucracy is so unwieldly that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing lend to 911 plot being able to slip through the cracks. Now we know differently...that Al Queda poses enough of a threat to be able to bring the house of cards down around our ears...the economy is now just recovering from the effects of 911...Furthermore just the hint that some event in the world is the result of a Terrorist action is enough to send the Stock Markets of the World spirling downwards out of control. Just knowledge of the above fact should be enough to alert the most ill informed persons that drastic action is reaquired to ameloriate the situation.

So I take it by your post that you think that all those agents who have devoted their lives to fighting terrorism who stated that the Bush administration took an even harder line against investigating shady characters with political clout are lying?
The facts show that 9/11 and other incidents of terror around the world were not cases of info falling through the cracks and/or being put on back burners. We now know that key investigations were thwarted, not fumbled. Just because the bureaucracy is large and unwieldy does not mean that the current ruling adminstration has no power over the people in those bureaucracies. I will be one to argue that every living president and many of the dead ones were critical architects in building the current mess that we now loosely define as terrorism. While GW is nothing more than a puppet for the powerful mulitnational interests and his control over the country is limited that in no way alleviates the fact that he is the commander and chief of our nation's defences at the time those defences were lowered and the threat was known to be high. 9/11 should hang around GW's neck like Enron and a lot of other disasters that occured under his watch. He may not have been the driver when this nation's road trip towards disaster started but the fact is that he was the driver steering us down the path to destruction when the car went off the cliff. If you want to argue that those involved in criminal collusions have no responsibility for the crimes that result because other people were involved in the conspiracy, then no criminal who is part of an illegal enterprise can ever be held responsible for his actions by those standards. |

There was what, no one at the mutant hamster races and we had one entry into the Madame Curie look-alike contest and he was disqualified later. Why do I bother? I should have assumed that after your lack of ability to support your argument in the other thread that some sort of inane comment was bound to come out of you sooner or later. |

I must however take issue with your comparing what happened on 9/11 with what happened at Enron. I think I might have missed your point on that comparison because they were entirely different situations. As far as your last statement, are you implying that Bush acted criminally? That will take some explaining to connect those dots. If you do feel that he ALLOWED 9/11 to happen is that like saying that FDR ALLOWED the attack on Pearl Harbor? I don't understand your point I think. What would you have done differently in his position? Do you think there is any way what happened on 9/11 could have been prevented? I don't. Islamic extemists have been trying to destroy us and our way of life for decades now and I don't think they are done yet. Pointing the finger at Bush may make some people feel better but it doesn't fix the problem. If you wanted, you could make a better case that Al Queda gained their strength under Clinton's watch (who by the way WAS a criminal) and he failed to do anything to stop or even slow their cause. Assigning blame still doesn't fix the problem and it does need to be dealt with. That I think will determine Bush's legacy. Pete |
