There was this guy at the ball park; an actor - he always plays a Columbian drug lord - you'd recognize him. He had a Whippet and would go to the field and chip golf balls and smoke cigars. We'd always say hi. Dudley loved chasing his dog and could keep up with his Whippet ONE TIME (and one time ONLY) across the field. Oh, he'd keep chasing her but it was hilarious that he couldn't come close to keeping up with her after the first lap. My understanding is Whippets are VERY fast, but not as fast as Greyhounds. Here's smiling Dudley in February of this year. I had to let him go in September but he did make his 14th birthday. I'll always love you boy! ![]()

[QUOTE=Dan in Pasadena;3622637]As you may know from earlier in this thread my recently departed, lifetime bestfriend Dudley the 14 year old Labrador, was actually a mix. He was partially Dalmation, though he didn't really look it so much (to me). In his youth he was INCREDIBLY fast. Waay faster than Sooner, my current 4 year old pure Labrador...and he's no slouch. I'd take my then 14 year old son to the ball field to fungo fly balls to him and Dudley would compete trying to catch the balls on the fly....fortunately he never did. He came VERY close a few times...a flying baseball woulda knocked his teeth out! But he'd retrieve them by the hundreds. He never tired of it even when exhausted.

Don't know his name, but I see his face. Whippets are in most ways half-sized greyhounds. They are also a bit more energetic from what I've seen. Dudley looked like a very happy pooch. Are you going to get another dog for the stable anytime soon? |

Ramm,
Yeah, Duds was a real peach. I become a slob when I start thinking of him. Our "baby" - 4 year old and 100lb "Sooner" the blonde lab probably would love it if we got something for him to chase! As it would happen we were offered a cockapoo male just the other day. It was a real cute dog for someone, but probably not a dog for us. I imagine at some point we will look but we are not actively looking now...perhaps that's a mistake, I don't know. For example, we are going on a week long ski trip in late January and will have to board Sooner. That costs a fortune for a big dog and I hate doing it because it is warehousing no matter what they tell you (I think). But to add the cost of another dog to that is prohibitive....of course Sooner would be happier if his own "little buddy" was with him. P.S. on the actor. I knew his name once but I've forgotten. This was prior to my son's H.S. graduation so about 8 or 9 years ago now. There are several hispanic actors you see over and over in the Columbian drug lord or sidekick role. This guy is sort of hawk beaked, balding a bit, real slender in movies but downright skinny in real life. He looks like he'd slit your throat in a minute but he's the nicest, most polite man you'd ever want to meet in real life.

If you can spare extra scratch, there are private homes where they will 'board' your dog while you are away. Your dog basically gets to live with another family and some other dogs while you are gone, and its all done in a house. They interview you and make sure your dog is behaved before accepting it though. They have that down here. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I am going away in June and we'll have to do it.

My wife really goes over the top on Christmas decor every year. She enjoys it, so I just stay out of the way. She creates little snow villages and uses some polyester snow. Our pup saw it sitting out, snagged it, then sat and posed. This picture was completely spontaneous.

![]() ![]() Over Thanksgiving I was in Seattle and my brother-in-law had him at his hme but he will be with us on this trip, so staying there again isn't an option. Oh well, there goes $250-300.

Oh if you're looking for good lobbying material:
How big is the dog(s) you take for rides in your 911?
